Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments I actually have a 'policy' of only keeping books on my to-read list for 4 years. This year is the first year I will get to try it out. LOL

I have 19 books on my to-read list that have been there since 2011, so I will try to finish all of those.

Beverly LOL - This sounds like the challenge for me.
My overall reading theme for 2015 is what I call the 3Rs - Retro, Romance and Reviews.

Retro being to read books sitting unread on by bookshelf or kindle.

Romance is for me to read all of the unread romance books and to catch up on my series books.

Anastasia Kinderman | 942 comments Oooooh, I'll be signing up for this one! I've had a mental TBR list for a lot longer than GR so we'll see how it turns out.

Beverly I am going to challenge myself to 50.
This will be about 1/3 of the books I plan to read for the year.

Londa -

I am curious about your tbr list policy. My tbr list is really long as anytime I see a book that interests me it goes on my tbr list so I do not forget about.:) I also have other subcategories of tbr list to help manage - such as tbr print bks I already have and tbr kindle books. But as the saying goes "my eyes are always bigger than my stomach". I do occasionally cull my tbr list.

How do books get on your tbr list?
Are you conscious of books on your tbr list and make an effort to read them (other than this challenge)?

message 9: by Londa (new)

Londa (londalocs) | 1526 comments Beverly, I am very conscious of my list, and I cull it often. I could never read every book I want to, so I try to prioritize. I try to only put books on there that I really really want to read. Sometimes I won't put a book on my true list at all. I will put a book on my maybe list just to make sure I really want to read it.

The 4 year thing is something I came up with about a year ago. I figure if I haven't gotten to it in 4 years, then I probably really don't want to read it. I am going to delete all of those I haven't read when they 'age out' lol

I'm hoping it will keep my list from getting out of control.

Anastasia Kinderman | 942 comments I might look into doing something like this, Londa. You always give me good ideas for managing my books xD I might restrict it to fiction books though as there are some great works of philosophy I don't expect to get around to for awhile but intend to read eventually.

That is a very good idea!

Londa often has lots of these!

A very sensible plan.
I do need to cull my tbr list and delete those that I am no longer interested and that I have read and taken off the list.
While I know I cannot read all of the books that I want before I die - there is always hope :)
It is just so hard for me to delete them - I know I have it bad!

It's thanks to her ideas my bookshelves are so organized, lol.

message 14: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (goodreadscomtrudyspages) I'm definitely in on this one. There are so many books left on my TBR shelf, even though I clean it out occasionally . I'm starting with The Personal History Kf Rachel Dupree. Should we just list our books here?

Anastasia Kinderman | 942 comments Hattie wrote: "Yes, I need this challenge. My books really do have dust on them. I'm embarrassed. I hang my head in shame. Lol. So, I'm glad to see this challenge. I'll try for the Silver (6). I'll try. Thanx for..."

Don't look at my shelves, lol. Or my nightstand xD

Great idea! I have over 150 books on my list. Need to weed out the ones I don't really intend to read.

Man in my hiatus I didn't realize we had the yearly challenges :( it's fine though because I probably wouldn't have accomplished them lol but this is one I'm going to do for next year for sure. I think I just put things on my tbr just to do it.

Anastasia Kinderman | 942 comments How did everyone do on this one? Andrew completed his.
