Welcome to Slippery Creatures Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on July 4th and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Hey Kristina! I'm a day behind on another buddy read I'm in so I'll be a day behind for this one unless I manage to get a lot of reading in one of these days. Just thought I'd let you know! I'm looking forward to finally starting this though!

No worries! The holiday made me behind on my reading as well. I finished chapters 1-5 and looking forward to chatting.

I'm up to that point too! I've been enjoying this book far more than I thought I would. I like how the author has brought to life London in the 1920s and shown how terribly the soldiers were treated when they came back home. Not too unlike how veterans are treated here in the U.S. You would hope that history would stop repeating itself...

Other than that I'm really curious to find out what his grandfather hid. I don't trust Kim at all though. He is far too eager to help Will.

I thought this was going to be a who done it book. The premise is so much more than what I was expecting. I like that not one character is reliable and anyone could be wanting whatever it is his uncle is hiding. I feel even Maisie is a little too knowledgeable with her gossip girls. True statement with Kim. He is a little too helpful and shows up when Will needs him most. It is sad about soldiers coming back from war and having trouble with finding jobs. I work in Health Care and I could go on and on about the veterans health care system.

I wondering if the word Bluebell has some correlation to what it is Will is to find? I read chapter 6 and woah, what! Did not expect that.....just saying. lol

I just finished chapter ten! And yeah, they did move quite fast didn't they 😂

I knew it! Kim is such a jerk taking advantage of someone's feelings like that. Not a big fan of him being Will's love interest anymore. I think the only way I'd like him is if he has a change of heart and helps Will, so I'll wait and see.

I feel bad for Will. I really hope Maisie doesn't betray him too because at this point it feels like no one is there for him and that's too lonely of a thought. For him to have to go through this stressful situation that really has nothing to do with him, alone, is terrible.

I have to say I love how Will is dealing with this though. I was cheering him on in chapter nine when he was just having fun informing both sides that he's screwed them over AGAIN. I'm completely on his side in all of this.

What I still don't get is why Ingoldsby hasn't shown up with a warrant when he has the ability to get one. All he had to do was get a warrant but instead he had to make things more complicated by bringing Kim into the equation. I don't get his logic 😓

While there was a warning at the beginning of the book, the mention of a deadly disease created for use of war is hitting a little too close to home. I'm super proud of Will for sticking to his beliefs in not giving a weapon like that to either group.

Not sure what to think of Phoebe yet. I'm not a huge fan of her rambling but I'm not going to judge her just yet. Hopefully she'll appear more so I can get a better grasp of her character.

I'm interested in seeing where this is going. While I'm not too invested in the romance since Kim sucks, I am eager to see how Will is going to get out of this mess.

I liked the plot of this book much more than I liked the romance. After all the manipulations I just see Will and Kim's relationship as unhealthy.

Kim's lied so many times I found it hard to believe anything he said by the end of the book. All I could think was Were those papers that Will destroyed real or were they copies Kim made? Could Kim be another double agent and actually be working for Zodiac? He seemed completely fine letting Libra free to die instead of taking him into custody where he could've given the WO information.

It’s sweet thinking he did all that for Will, but after all the trouble he put into finding the papers I find it hard to believe he would just let Will burn them in the end. Why go through all that trouble if Kim was just going to allow Will to burn them anyway? Nope, still don't trust Kim at all. I was getting frustrated with how many times Will forgave him only to once again be surprised when he was betrayed. Have you never heard of The Boy Who Cried Wolf Will?!? You work in a bookshop you should know better than this 😓

Okay rant over lol.

Despite Will's constantly misplaced trust I really liked his character. I feel like he had a good viewpoint on the world, and I love a person who sticks to their beliefs.

I really did enjoy the plot of this book. I was constantly wondering what was gonna happen next and I thought hiding the formula in a book and then sending it to someone who loves books was a brilliant idea. I really enjoyed the two scenes near the end when Will escapes his captors. His talents and smarts really showed during those scenes and had me cheering him on. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing more of Will and Kim tag teaming if Kim wasn't such a jerk.

I'm sad Maisie and Phoebe didn't have bigger roles in this story, but here's hoping they'll be more important later on. I'm predicting they might end up as a couple too.

Not sure if I'll pick up the next one because Kim reaaallly bothered me, which I get is probably the point, but still. The description of the next book doesn't give me any hope he'll soon change his ways. I do really like Will though so if the reviews are good maybe I'll check it out...

I just finished chapter 13. I should be finishing this tonight.

Okay. So I finished this book on Friday, but I did not have a chance to get on the computer to give my thoughts.

(view spoiler)[ First off, how is Kim that smart to know that the ticket was in the flower? Second of all, How would you still go out to a pub after Kim repeatedly had a different agenda? It just blew my mind!! I thought the same thing about the papers being a copy. Kim is to cunning to just have them in the open like that. Maybe that is what we see in the other books. Who knows?

Thanks for picking up this book. I would have never picked this up if you had not suggested it.

I don't know if I would pick up the second book in the series. There might be some answers to the whole perspective of Kim....hmmmmm (hide spoiler)]

I'm glad we share the same opinion about Kim. I gave the book 4 stars, but my real rating is 3.5 just because the romance with him bothered me so much 😓

He's just too manipulative for me and Will could do better. I'm still on the fence on whether I'll pick up the second book too.

Well if you decide, I would do a buddy read.
