Dick Nielson | 8 comments I was not sure where to put this but this folder for news seems fitting.
Brandon Sanderson has been selling special hardback editions of his books for years. Leather bound and nice. I have never bought one.
I heard earlier this week that they decided to do a leatherbound release of The Way of Kings on kickstarter. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...

When I logged on 12 hours after the kickstarter opening, it was just passing $4 million. I turned into a livecast on facebook where he was signing book pages and answering questions. He said they ordered 10,000 and hoped to sell at least half of them on kickstarter, so they were not sitting on a huge pile of books.
Wow, it is now the biggest funded book that used kickstarter. When I just looked, it is at $4.4 million and is #35 of the biggest kickstarter campaigns ever. Not bad for one days work.

Dick Nielson | 8 comments Some of the goals that were met are interesting. A copy of the 2002 version of the Way of King that is is calling Way of Kings Prime, 8 years before it was released. Plus a novella written in his Cosmere universe.
The novella is interesting to see how the story and characters changed from the initial book, to how it was published 8 years later. Often we hear of rough drafts floating out there of books, we never get the chance to experience them.

Dick Nielson | 8 comments So he ended today as the 14th largest kickstarter ever. With $6,788,517.

His livestream on 8/6/2020 he had another author on and they discussed how authors worry in the back of their mind what could happen, and many are trying to explore alternate ways to sell or distribute books.
