Wow! You're going to be taking on a lot, but this is the time to do it and even after your wife has had children, I'm sure she still has the talent. I can see your dilemma about names. I just want to be clear on what you're asking. You wrote quite a bit in just one post.
I want to tell you that I am NOT a professional at anything. So knowing something professional wouldn't be coming from me, but I would love to help you out, so I'm just going to clarify for myself and maybe others who have seen your post.

So, you want to pick out a name? As in, create what your business is called? Do you want your family last name in it? Can you give any examples of even one thing that you've come up with to work with? You don't even have to tell us your last name if you don't want to use it.

Also, about the legal rights of the name? Do you mean, if you come up with a name, you have to find out if someone already has a company with that name so you can't use it, right? And you're asking how you find that out?

Then you asked finally if you should just get an attorney to take care of all of this and you don't have to worry about it.

Well, I just thought one thing, if you use your last name, if it isn't a fairly common one, there might not be too many companies with the exact same name.

Or make something up, then you can have a little *jingle* with it in the ad, or commercial. Like:

Eternity's Photos
Make memories last forever!

I don't know. I really know nothing about any of this, and I'm sorry if I'm way off base on this.

This was a great folder, and we had a professional photographer in the group, too. Ruth, Dirk, everyone, do you realize that it's July and it has been exactly one year since we've heard from Geoffrey. His profile has been left the same since last July. I fear the worst.

Well, thank you for explaining it a little more clearly; Now, I have absolutely no idea where you would go from where you are.

This is a place where you possibly could get some great information and answers IF ONLY there is a member who is a professional photographer and who is willing to share his or her knowledge.

I will tell you right now, that we have MANY lurkers. A lot of numbers of members but few people who actually participate in the dialogues. And of those people, I don't know if any of them know a whole lot about photography. (and you know who you are that I'm talking about, no offense intend when I say you might not know a whole lot). Now that is just to my knowledge based on past experience in this thread and who has been able to contribute what here.
