I started City of Bones because it was really popular and it sounded interesting. Now I’m about 100 pages in and not really liking it. I was wondering if anyone has read k and could tell me if it’s worth finishing?

I didn't like this one at all. Like, at all. I only finished it because people were telling me that it would eventually get better, but no. I'm not going to contnue the series.
Here's my review
Which was basically a list of what happened in the book and how I hated all of it
But for what it's worth

City of Bones is the only book I loved in the series. The second book is plain trash, it felt really dragged with too much of fanfic from Twilight, Star Wars and Harry Potter. I stopped at City of Glass and I heard that the other books get better, but I am unable to will myself to finish the series. I think the main reason is because of Clary's narration, she's really whiny and annoying. I really liked how City Of Bones ended though, many plot twists in the last few chapters. You could definitely give this book a try, but I'm not so sure about the series. Again, just my opinion :)
omg i love this book! I will say the writing of cassie gets much better as time goes on but ahhh this series is really amazing!! I admit the other series in TSC are better but I love this one a lot!

Thats just what I thought of them though, obviously you might just not like her writing. I really recommend Cassies Infernal Devices trilogy, its set in the same world with Shadowhunters etc but in Victorian London and I found those books much easier to get into. If you don't like those its probably just her writing and it might not be worth continuing with the Mortal Instruments series.. sorry for such long replies haha
I only manage to like them because I already know the characters from her other series. I think that’s the only reason, otherwise I wouldn’t care about these books at all.
I loved the series! I also read the 'prequel' series that's set 100 some years before City of Bones, which helped give me some perspective of the characters and the world they live in. But overall, I loved it, I do think that Clary and Jace's relationship was kind of odd though.
I really don't know what to think about this one- when I first read it, I liked it, but I'm sort of getting over it. I liked the prequel trilogy better, though.
When I read Clockwork Angel after reading City of Bones, I was shocked to see how similar they were. They're basically carbon copies, but with different characters. Will is the same person as Jace. I was just so annoyed by Jace, and Clary never shut her mouth. All in all, it was full of tropes I hate and will continue to hate.
Yes. I do agree with the Will and Jace thing. The first book was pretty similar, but the second is different, in my opinion.
Or maybe I'm just an idiot.
Both work.
I don't think I would these, but I read The Dark Artifices, and they were actually pretty good, just wayyyyy too many plotlines.
Sofia wrote: "Oh, and I hate Tessa with a burning passion. Someone kindly murder her."Yeah.
She’s the worst character in those books.
In The Infernal Devices, I’d say Tessa, and then Will. But I do like Jem.In the Mortal Instruments, I’d say Jace and Clary are tied, but I liked Isabelle and Simon.
Sofia wrote: "I liked Jem, even though he did nothing in the first book. He's nicer than Will."Definitely.
By a lot. xD
Nicole wrote: "Ye, Jace and Will are one and the same personAnd I hate both of them"
Same. I actually don't know who Will is, but if he's anything like Jace then no.
All of you are blasphemers! *Jk*Clockwork Angel series was better than City of Bones, but don't you dare insult William Herondale! I liked "The Mortal Instruments,' but I didn't like Clary. I liked Tessa more than Clary, and even though Jem was nicer than Will, we all know why, I still think that Will is beautiful. Jace is okay, not my favourite, but okay. Jem is okay too, he's higher than Jace, but still not my favourite, Will takes that place. :)

Will has his similarities with Jace, but, but, he is so much better! Read The Infernal Devices and see what he's like, then decide if he's as bad as Jace, and if you still didn't change your mind, then it's fine. ")
Simon, Alec, and Magnus are greeeeaaat characters, I love them! Isabelle is also a good character, I like her.
Lucia wrote: "I've been reading City of Bones for over a month now- it's such a drag. To me, it's soooo boring"It might be boring now, but I liked the first book a little bit, and so much better than the next two, you'll see when you read it (you really should read them), the last books are definitely the best of the series, I loved the last book, such a good ending. :)
I liked it when I read it and I want to finish the series this year, but I'm worried that I won't like it anymore. The whole sibling thing made me uncomfy
I love all of these books and I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys fantasy! Magnus x Alec was a great addition to the novels. The love triangles between Jace x Clary x Alec and Jace x Clary x Simon were just such a great added drama. The storyline and plot twists made the book that much more enjoyable. In later books when Clary and Jace "find out" they're "siblings" almost turned me away from the book series entirely. Absolutely loved the relationship between the Lightwoods and Jace, although rocky it built a more realistic family dynamic. Overall great book series, will love it till the day I die.
i didnt love the first two books, but i really enjoyed the last four. idk maybe im just weird, considering so many of my friends hate it
UMMMM I'm watching Shadowhunters right now and I just finished season 2 episode 4 and did they just kill of a semi-main character that didn't die in the books?! I've only read the first four books and I read them a while ago but I swear she didn't die. Help. I'm in shock and I'm confused
Shawna wrote: "UMMMM I'm watching Shadowhunters right now and I just finished season 2 episode 4 and did they just kill of a semi-main character that didn't die in the books?! I've only read the first four books ..."How tf does that work?
So after waiting nearly a year (damn it feels like just yesterday I wrote that post) I have finally started City of Ashes, purely because I want to read the other series CC has written and I'd like to have read the og series first. Anyways I'm not loving this one either. Had you given me a more likeable main character, maybe I would've liked it some more but seeing as we have Clary things aren't looking up.
I actually liked Clary. Just didn’t enjoy her “not-like-other-girls” attitude. The dialogue/banter is the best part but the plot/world-building is so and so. Simon was okay, Jace was annoying but bearable, Isabelle was the best, Alec was just there, etc. It’s a decent book but not memorable.
Claire wrote: "Why can’t Izzy jus be the main character. She would have been freaking awesome."True. I'm reading the final book right now and if the series would've mainly focused on Sizzy and Malec the series would've been better
Shawna wrote: "Claire wrote: "Why can’t Izzy jus be the main character. She would have been freaking awesome."True. I'm reading the final book right now and if the series would've mainly focused on Sizzy and Ma..."
agreed.
I only read the first three books and just couldn’t get myself to really care. I hated the mc for some reason and just didn’t like how clueless she was to the world yet still acting as though she knew everything. I swear if she just listened, just listened at least once to the ones who literally grew up in this world, there would be no book. The root of every problem was created by her acting like she knew everything when she literally found out what she was basically yesterday. After those first three I was like this is where this series ends for me. I attempted reading the fourth book but ended up putting it down after the first 100 pages cause I just didn’t care. It was a 3 star read. Read if you wanna pass time or have read other series with them.
Claire wrote: "Why can’t Izzy jus be the main character. She would have been freaking awesome."Same, she's amazing & I'm only started City of Glass a little while ago
I've read the first book and actually liked it, but that was years ago. Not sure when I'm going to resume reading the series. Yeah, there were a few issues with the main character and all that.
