Footnotes ThreadHow lucky are we to have this option as an accompaniment to our discussion thread...Very thankful!
Post any questions, comments, or thoughts, pertaining to House of Leaves footnotes here. Of course, if the Footnote pertains to the scheduled reading and not anything further, please do not hesitate in posting it in the Discussion Thread as it pertains to the current reading.

Chapters V-VIII

Chapters I-IVI had to look up some of these articles and check the validity...Chime in whenever and add accordingly, I guess?! :)
FN 3 Lee Sinclair's "Degenerate" in Twentieth Century Dub, Dub
I couldn't find anything on this...I speculate it doesn't exist?
FN 9 Mirjana Gortchakova's "Home Front" in GQ....I speculate doesn't exist
FN 10 Isaiah Rosen, PhD., Flawed Performances: A Consideration......I speculate doesn't exist
FN12 Helmut Kereincrazch "Years of Those" New Republic...I speculate doesn't exist BUT there is insight into Navidson's age (I don't know if we'll need this, but just in case).
FN 14 Donna York "In Twain" Redbook...I speculate it doesn't exist
Chapters I-IVFN 15 There is a Science volume 265 that is published Aug 5, 1994, with page numbers that encompass page 741. But, the one article that is on that page is not "The Heart's Device" by Frances Leiderstahl. Instead it is an article titled "Pulling Hair from the Ground" by Virginia Morell. It's an archeological article about recovering hair strands from the ground and doing DNA sequencing from the extracted DNA to figure out more about the people who lived there.
Chapters I-IVFN 15 Cont'd
Joel Watkin "Jewelry Box, Perfume and Hair in Mademoiselle DNE*
Hardy Taintic "Adult Letters and Family Jewels" The American Scholar DNE... On first glance "Taintic," I thought was a reference to the male scrotum; but the FN is written by Zampano and I can't imagine him using the word "taintic..." Not to mention how would it have applied to the reading? However, "Taintic" could also be an anagram for the Titanic and Thomas Hardy did write "The Convergence of Twain" which was about the Titanic and can be read here http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/....
Hardy goes on to explain the demise of the Titanic was caused by an imminent will, or natural force (the iceberg). Despite advances made by man, the power of nature will always prevail...And as the smart ship grew/In stature, grace and hue/In shadowy silent distance grew the Iceberg too. Hmmm.
FN 16 Samuel T. Glade "Omens & Signs" Notes From Tomorrow DNE
FN 17 Max C. Garten "100 Looks" Vogue DNE
FN 19 Leslie Buckman "Lie Lexicon and Feminine Wiles" All In the Name of Feminism: A Collection of Essays DNE...But I did find this http://navidson-files.org/items/show/5
FN 20 Dale Corrdigan "Blurbs" Glamour DNE...But I did find this http://navidson-files.org/items/show/7
FN 21 David Liddel "A Horny Duo" Utne Reader DNE...But I did find this http://navidson-files.org/items/show/7
FN 22 Ascencion Gerson "The Vanity of Self-Loathing" Collected Essays on Self-Portraiture DNE
FN 23
Chris Ho "What's in a Name? Afterimage DNE
Dennis Stake "Delial" DNE
Jennifer Caps "Delial, Beatrice and Dulcinea" DNE...But I did find Dulcinea is a character in Don Quixote who is supposedly his "true love?" Maybe a parallel to Navidson's Delial character?
Lester Breman "Tis but a Name" Ebony DNE
Tab Fulrest "Ancient Devotions" DNE
FN 26 Pollit "The Incident" DNE
FN 27 Michelle Nadine Goetz interview in Denver Post DNE
FN 28 Interviews with Adam Zobol, Anthony Freed and Anastasia Cullman DNE
FN 29 Ritta Mistopolis M.D., "Black Heart, Blue Heart" DNE
FN 30 Keillor Ross "Legal Zoning" Atlantic Monthly DNE...But I did find this http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2008...
Keillor Ross article could be a play on Garrison Keillor move to the country?
FN 31 Zampano "The Matter of Why" LA Weekly DNE
FN 32 Martin Heidegger "Sein und Zeit" Ding Ding, I found one.

You're getting so much out of the footnotes and I'm not even reading the cursed things! I will pay attention in the future.Edit: I don't think that Dulcinea actually existed in DQ. She was a fictional persona that he gave to a woman he didn't know. I think. It's been a few years since I read that.
Amy! You're brilliant! They're talking about the devil in some of these I think. FN 21 has "A Horny Duo" and FN23 you were talking about Delial? I don't know of a Delial but there's a Belial, which I thought was some kind of evil god, but it actually refers to the Hebrew Bible. Belial became the devil.

Nope, you're right..she was fictional. I got it here...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dulcinea

Do you have anything on Beatrice? If Delial is Belial, we have the devil and a fictional woman. Not just fictionalized, but an idealized example of a perfect woman.
Ami wrote: ":) Might be something to keep an eye out for. So far all we know is that Navy carries a torch for her. ..."We don't actually know she's female. Everyone seems to think she is, but Navidson never gave an explanation.

Delial...There are references to "her" and "she" on page 17. Are you thinking because nobody has heard, or seen this person, it could be a dude...Because it's Zampano who refers to Delial as a "her," and "she." Sarah, you always get me thinking...Interesting.
Yes, it's not first person so we don't know for sure. He could simply have nightmares and Karen is making that leap. It does say something about co-workers too, but until Navidson knocks on my door, I'm skeptical. Delial and Belial are to similar to dismiss, especially with a "pre-adamite" house.
I was googling for Pan/Pisces links and I found this fascinating page that is discussing this book. One theory is that Pelafina is the one who has written the book.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Sil...
