Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments I'm looking forward to December's The Murder on the Links. I haven't read this one yet, so you'll get my first reaction this time.

Oooh, I didn't even realise there was a members' threads section.

Also, I am very excited to see what you'll make of Murder on the Links. :D I'm kinda giggling about the book already.

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments All I know is that it's a Poirot book, but I'm quite excited to read it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 113 comments I'm also looking forward to the reaction of those reading it for the first time.

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments I've only started reading Christie over the last 3 years. I can't believe that I never picked up one of her books before.

message 9: by Wanda (new)

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments Finally got The Murder on the Links from the library and had time to devote to it. Here is my review (which contains spoilers, so you've been warned!)

Mary (maryschumacher) | 153 comments Great review, Wanda. I really loved the juxtaposition between Poirot and the "Sherlock" detective - lots of snarky fun.

Yes, I think the author was enjoying herself!

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments I really enjoyed the romp in The Man in the Brown Suit. Find my review here:

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments Well, I have just completed Christie's autobiography and I love the perspective it gives on her writing! My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments I seem to be in the minority, as I really enjoy Christie's thrillers. My review of The Secret of Chimneys is here : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I don't enjoy all of them, but I do enjoy The Secret of Chimneys. It makes me smile!

Mary (maryschumacher) | 153 comments I just started reading Chimneys and I'm really hooked. Wish I didn't have to work!

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments I thoroughly enjoyed this re-read of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments Although I've been whining about my pickiness these days, Christie always seem to come through for me. I enjoyed The Big Four and you can find my review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments I whipped through The Mystery of the Blue Train, despite it being not up to Christie's usual standards. My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Yeah, I could have done without the thriller setup in the beginning.

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments Just finished The Seven Dials Mystery and I love Bundle Brent! My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 22: by Mary (new)

Mary (maryschumacher) | 153 comments Great review, Wanda. I agree that Bundle should have had her own series - she is a memorable character.

message 23: by Wanda (new)

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments A missed opportunity, that. 😊

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments So, Murder at the Vicarage. I first read it in 2017 and rated it 4 stars. I think I enjoyed it more this time & I bumped my rating up accordingly. I do love Griselda! My review can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Have you identified the streaker yet, Wanda? I'm expecting excellent things from your career as a sleuth.

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments Haha, I've a suspicion it's the young man from the suite across the hall from mine. I apparently startled him in only his undies when I started out one morning. There was a great deal of scrabbling as he got back in the door. At least he has a very cute little tushy!

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments Loved Emily in The Sittaford Mystery. My review of it is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments Well, Christie fooled me again, no surprise there, with Peril at End House. I was right there with Hastings.

My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Great review. And I suspect if it weren't for Hastings, we'd all be frustrated a lot more often! I can understand why Christie eventually sent him off to "the Argentine," but I still would wish he'd have shown up in a few more of her books ... for his and Poirot's banter alone.

I miss Hasting's when he's in "the Argentine".

Hastings is such a good foil for Poirot! And he makes me feel smart. 🤣

Me, too. Besides, he's not really good at ranching anyway, so he'd fulfill much more of a purpose being Poirot's foil ...

One of the great ideas on the part of the makers of the TV series was to include him even in a couple of storylines where he doesn't actually show up in the books. I usually hate this sort of fiddling with the author's writing, but here it feels very natural and very much in keeping with his role and with the spirit of Christie's books. (Besides, any opportunity not given to Hugh Fraser to exclaim, in wide-eyed astonishment, "Oh. My. Lord!!" is an opportunity utterly wasted. :D)

Wanda Pedersen | 158 comments I think I must acquire my own copy of The Body in the Library. It is my all time favourite Christie. My review can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
