I need some hard/fantastical scifi to fill the void that has appeared since I finished Golden Son. I enjoyed the book tremendously! Help!

Have you read The Vorkosigan Saga yet? Lois McMaster Bujold is my hands-down favorite scifi writer, especially of space operas. I love grand scare stuff being filtered through the lives, reactions, and relationships of a few well-realized characters.

Try Rachel Bach's Paradox series starting with Fortune's Pawn. High energy space opera with aliens, mecha, spaceships, bioweapons and spies with a really satisfying conclusion.

I just assumed that the people most willing and able to help enjoyed Golden Son as well, and would thus know other books to recommend?
