I loved this when I read it years ago. I remember finishing it in the bathtub because I knew it was going to make me cry. That way I could keep washing my face.I've never seen the movie but I'm putting this on my TBR and on hold at the library. My allergies are killing me and the cool refreshment of my own salty tears might make them feel better.

Ha, that's a good tip. Lately I seem to tear up at unexpected times. (Last week I started crying over a news items about a 100 year old man who raised a ton of money by walking 100 laps around his garden. The Queen knighted him.) My allergies are worse too, or maybe it's the AC or dirty ducts? I tried 3 different kinds of eyedrops this week.
FYI, I have a memory of two versions of the movie on the DVD I had. One was much sexier than the other.

I also have a strong emotional connection to this story because it reminds me of my grandparents. They were really cool in their youth, and devoted in old age despite her Alzheimer's disease. He helped to make sure that she had a good quality of life. I remember how she looked at him and talked about him even when she wasn't sure who he was. It was very romantic.
I keep changing my mind about the rating because I have to rate the book, not the movie or my grandparents. I feel happy reading this even while I'm crying. I don't care that it's sappy.
