New week and new book: let's begin discussing book 2 of the First Law Trilogy by Jow Abercrombie Before They Are Hanged. Usually middle books from trilogies are more sedate, they only make the connection between the first part (the stage setting) and the final part (the final battle). Is this the case here?

I'm looking forward to reading this book in February, I read the first book in the series in 2013 and enjoyed it. I'm not sure of what to expect from this second book but I can't wait to learn more about Glokta.

Glokta is my favourite character as well, with a surprising evolution in Book 2.
Plugging along with this now - it's good, and definitely building on the scene-setting in the first book.
I'm joining you in reading this Michael. I've just finished reading Chapter 3 and of Glokta's arrival in Dagoska.
Glad to hear you seem to like the second book of the trilogy as well. For me it was a total surprise. And I found the whole Dagoska experience terrible. Glotka is set to fail, knows he will fail and he goes in to do it anyway. We get to know more about Bayaz as well.
I totally agree, Andreea, I've finished the book (I could not put it down) and I thoroughly enjoyed it, even more then the first book which I thought lacked some action to reach 5 stars. This second book was perfect, exciting battles with captain West, the siege of Dagoska, we learn about the old empire, Bayaz story as well as Ferro. I can't wait to read the last book in the trilogy, it is scheduled for next month group read, is someone going to read it then?
Haven't finished book 2 but it's going great so I'm definitely going to read the last book next month.
Running a bit behind, but agree book 2 improves on book 1. Great fight scenes, love the characters. Best book I've read this year. Looking forward to book 3.
