Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4976 comments I have never had any desire to read books involving zombies. That changed when I discovered Diana Rowland's White Trash Zombie series. My Life as a White Trash Zombie was such a hit for me that I couldn’t wait to start the audio of the second book, Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues. What a fun read this turned out to be!

Angel enjoys her job doing the body pick ups and helping with the autopsies at the coroner’s office and she likes the self-respect she feels now that she’s getting her life on track. She's putting drugs, booze, and bad relationship decisions behind her, or at least trying to.

As the story opens, she’s attacked in the morgue and a body goes missing. Of course, Angel is blamed and gets suspended. Everyone, including her zombie boyfriend and his uncle, head of the local zombie mafia, believe she did it. She's been working hard to overcome her bad reputation and she feels betrayed by those making the accusations.

She decides the only way to save her job is to do the investigation herself. This book has it all, including a secret lab testing zombies. Rowland added more depth, new characters and more complication for Angel to cope with, and the reader sees how much she has matured. I love having her as the narrator and cheering her on as she makes better decisions, though she's still a work in progress.

I highly recommend the audio version of this seies. The narrator, Allison McLemore, does a fantastic job and makes the story incredibly entertaining. This was a book that I really looked forward to listening to, and couldn't wait to return to. I just picked up the rest of the series in audio because I can't imagine enjoying it as much reading it in any other way.

One of the things that drew me to this series was the awesome cover art. I did some research and discovered it was done by artist Daniel Dos Santos, who has been nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist each year since 2009. He also does the beautiful cover art for the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, among many others.
