Hayley For anyone who doesn't know the era.

The 1920's was a time when people had great freedom of expression. It was a time after the war when everyone wanted to let their hair down and have fun. There was parties galore and everyone wanted to be rich and famous. But behind that glossy vainer lied a world of crime and danger. The banning of alcohol had lead to a boost of mobs and gangs rising, these mobs ran speakeasies and were often the power behind every major city. Police were corrupt and so were politicians.

Acceptance:
The 1920's while on the surface seemed more accepting of differences in society, it really wasn't. Nearly all American people viewed immigrants as outsiders and wanted them gone. They were also afraid of communism and sent a good many people to jail for it even through they had official reasons to put on the books. They didn't like black people and thought they were above them. They also didn't like Jews or Catholics as they were "non-American". Gay's weren't generally accepted but their were some community's where they were safe-ish. Women's rights had come on leaps and bounds but things still weren't equal.
