How are enchantments used in the story, and how does Isobel prevent her enchantments from working against her?

Enchantments are used in a classic way here. The fae will do anything to make them go wrong or turn sour just for entertainment. Isobel is extremely careful with her wording and with good reason. She also only asks for things that will make their lives easier and safer rather than something vain. That goes a long way in protecting her.
