my accent never happened, and I just can't memorize written characters and pronunciations.

Oh...that's too bad. I can't memorize the characters either, but since my mom speaks Mandarin I get a lot of listening/speaking practice.

ohhh that makes sense. Both my parents are Indonesian so I basically grew up with that. I can't read or write it very well, but I also don't consider English to be my first language since I didn't learn it primarily.

That's the same way for me!

If I listen closely enough, I can vaguely figure out what's going on. But that's only for simple conversations. I can't speak it or write it.

I used to take Mandarin classes, but all the kids there already knew how to speak it because their parents actively used it at home. Oh, and I don't have the accent, so it's difficult.

That's still really cool though

yess!! in my school, we MUST learn Chinese for our side languages, but it's been 10 years...yes, 10 YEARS of learning but I (or we, bc mostly still can't) still can't speak Chinese fluently

Hi, I've been learning chinese for a month or two now and know some basics. I'm actually working on some other languages since I speak 11 languages but I hope to be able to get an intermediate level in chinese soon!
