Abandoned Workshop
Eva slipped into the back of the school, melting into the shadows. The night was clear and she could feel the cool night air on her cheeks, ruffling her hair affectionately. Closing her eyes, she called upon her enhanced vision and the landscape sharpened in front of her. "C'mon, I feel something ahead." She whispered. "A building of some sort." She eyed her dorm mates who were creeping silently behind her.
Calli quietly walked behind her, not making any sound. She kept checking behind her, making sure that she wasn’t being followed.
Eva crept ahead swiftly. She looked around for any suspicious spies but saw nothing. Quickly, she scurried in front of the workshop and pulled the door open. She ducked inside and summoned a ball of light, illuminating the entire space. "Woah..." She gasped at its musty interior.
Eva eyed the well-oiled machines and touched the ancient scrolls gently. A familiar energy hummed inside her and she had the weird flashback of herself meddling with tools since she was young. This was her life. This was where she belonged. A part of her memory was coming back and she grasped that memory tightly, unwilling to let go. Smiling, she reattached the wires and the workshop came alive. An invisible sound proof shield was set up and the tech modified in five minutes. She gestured to the workshop, grinning. "How about we build our secret base here?"
Elanor nodded slowly, a gleam in her eyes. "I like it." She ran over to the scrolls and fingered them gently. She picked one up, carefully so it wouldn't crumble in her hands. She opened it and looked through it, skimming it. All of a sudden the strangest thing happened. Elanor got to the last page, and then a terrible, aching feeling spread throughout her body. She gasped and dropped the scroll. And all of a sudden, it was gone. She looked at Eva and Calli slowly. "Do you think these are...cursed?"
“I don’t know... maybe?” Calli said, shrugging her shoulders. She picked one up and immediately felt sick. Her head hurt, her stomach hurt, and she felt like she was going to faint. She dropped the scroll and immediately felt better. Then the scroll vanished into thin air. “Yeah, these are definitely cursed” Calli assured Eva and Elanor.
Eva looked at her weirdly. "Cursed?" She touched the scrolls gently but they didn't react. Frowning, she read the ancient language and found the words flowing through her smoothly like she had been reading it for her whole life. Another memory surfaced. Royalty. Gasping, she knelt on the floor, staggering in shock. "I knew this...the scrolls...." She muttered.
"Weird kinda curse, huh?" Elanor says. "Usually they're long-lasting, not temporary. Unless...oh no. I hope we didn't just get cursed for a while by picking that scroll up. But I don't feel anything. Strange. And, we probably would've had to have more contact with it..." She continued the debate with herself.((gtg!!! I'll be back soon, but don't do anything too important without me!! :D))
"This scroll is for the royalty." Eva started in a small voice. "It's programmed to repel everyone who isn't from the royal bloodline. It contains the secrets of our existence, the forces that are working behind us to bring the universe to an end. I'm...I was a princess. Of planet A-91." She finished hurriedly.
"I was sent here. Wiped away of my memory because my parents tried to keep me safe. It was their dying wish. I tried to protect them but I can't! They died and our world is in chaos. My mind is in a whirl right now. I know some kind of group is targeting us but who?! Why would they erase the most important part of my memory!!!" Eva said as she pulled her hair in annoyance.
"Whoa," Elanor grinned. "Royalty? Niicceee." She touched the scroll again, with a different hand, to see what happened. She didn't feel anything."Ummmmm....Eva? Maybe there's a malfunction or something, because I touched it with my right hand, and I didn't feel anything."
She touched it with her left hand. Burning, searing pain.
((and now, i actually gtg!!))
"It can't be..." She said softly. "Have you ever asked about your background? You might have an ancestor of the royal bloodline." She said. "I helped make these documents. And I'm sure they are intact."
Elanor shook her head. “At least...I don’t remember it. But what’s weird is that it hurts with my left hand but not my right.”
"It's because the royalty blood in you is stronger on one side." Eva explained. "Ok enough talking, let's get to work now!" She shooed the other girls to start cleaning up the dusty workshop.
Calli touched one of the scrolls again. She didn’t feel anything this time. “You sure that these work? I know that I’m not royalty and it’s not doing anything to me.” She said. Then, smoke filled the room from the scroll and a scary voice could be heard coming from the scroll. It was speaking in another language, and the only work that could be understood was, “kill”. Then the voice stopped and the smoke vanished from the room. Calli dropped the scroll and it vanished.
Elanor quickly picked up a broom, but she couldn’t focus. She dusted the floor, thinking. Royalty? How could it be? But somehow it felt right. “Eva? Does that mean we’re...sisters?”
"Sisters? No... not really. It works for any royal family in the universe. We might have a common ancestor very far back but... from what I know, we're definitely not sisters or half sisters or whatever." Eva said, eyeing the smoke. "This is bad, guys. The system has been hacked. And they're using it to track us. Me. My family. And the other planets might be in danger as well." She said, exhaling to keep calm.
"Yeah. But they must be ready." Eva shrugged. "Anyways, feel like training and getting stronger? A war might be coming soon." She said, a determined glint in her eyes.
"Tomorrow then. I'm gonna sleep here. Just in case." Eva said, yawning. "You guys go ahead to bed. I'll join you in the morning."
Eva waved and made a bunk out of several sheets. She settled between the humming machines and fell asleep listening to its comforting drone.
“It’s not that I’m worried about what’s gonna get in,” Elanor said slowly. “I’m worried about what’s already in here. We haven’t properly cleaned it up yet, and that weird smoke thing made me nervous. I’ll stay here with you. Extra powers can’t hurt.”
"Really?" Eva asked, her eyes glittering. "No one has ever been concerned about my safety before." She whispered, touched and awed. "Thanks." She said sincerely, moving a spot for Elanor.
Elanor smiled and laid down. "So what are your powers anyway? Just so we have an idea if something threatens us."
"I have no idea. I can make things appear by imagining, and I have enhanced senses. That's all. I don't really remember anything else." She admitted.
"Hmm..." Elanor quickly braided her long light purple hair. "Let's test some out!" She quickly got up. "Maybe we can trigger one of our abilities! All I know is that I can teleport and shape shift."
Calli came back into the building looking for Elanor because she didn’t follow her back to the dorms. She heard Eva talking about her powers and sat back down in a chair near the door.
"Whoa!" Elanor said. "Anyway, just do things that would help trigger any type of power. Like, try to read someone's mind."
