I really like dystopian fiction but ever since covid happened i've been leery of this topic, but now I'm morbidly curious.

Look for "The Meek Shall Inherit" coming soon. Not out yet, but I've read it and know the authors. YA genre.
Feed by Mira Grant This is shelved as horror, because of zombies. But they're zombies because of a virus. The summery:The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beaten the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop.
The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED. Now, twenty years after the Rising, bloggers Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the trail of the biggest story of their lives—the dark conspiracy behind the infected.
The truth will get out, even if it kills them.
I was planning to reread this series this year and then Covid happened and I couldn't.
Kingdom of Needle and Bone by Mira Grant and another by the same author I did make the horrible decision to read this year. The summery is too long to post, but its another pandemic killing a bunch of people. It's also horror but more...wow the world is horrible and people are horrible horror than actual ghouls and monsters.
The Survivors: PandemicThe Hoffmann Plague
One Final Gasp
Red Line
Long Empty Roads
The Lucky Prepper: A Gardener's Story of Surviving a Pandemic
The Last Tribe
It Hit The Fan: Piney River Apocalypse
Escape the Virus
Infection
The Fever King and The Young Elites have viruses that end up giving people powers, although there's more of a focus on the powers than the virus
If you are still looking for this type of book, try The Meek Shall Inherit by Cynthia Siira and Julia White. It is about a virus that kills most of the world's population and is written from the point of view of 2 girls who have survived. The story is about how people rebuild their community after something so devastating. Despite the subject matter, it is not depressing like you would expect. It was a quick easy read but very thoughtful at the same time. The Meek Shall Inherit
