Hard to say I'm recommending literary classics as if I've discovered them but this summer I've finally gotten around to Grapes of Wrath and The Seven Storey Mountain. I love Steinbeck and Thomas Merton's honest and enthusiastic recounting of his spiritual journey was a true inspiration and a joy to read.
I'm approaching the end of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and it is absolutely extraordinary and worthy of the hype.
