India 2015
Reserving my spotBooks read: 1/5
✔ 1. The Mother I Never Knew: Two Novellas - Finished on 8/5/15 - 2 stars.
Was quite disappointed with this one! Somehow, it didn't have the usual Sudha Murty magic!
2.
I'm pledging 5 books for this challenge for now.
(Although I might cut it down to 3, depending on how the year progresses, as I am not particularly keen on reading Indian fiction atm.)

I'm in!I've added 10 books and I hope to complete the challenge this year.
1) Waiting for the Mahatma by R.K. Narayan (January)
Argh! Can't add the book by Narayan because I've read it before the 15th of January. Is there something we can do or is it possible to change the dates of the challenge adding as start date the 1st January?
Dely I actually mean from Jan 1st. Just because I made the challenge today, the date automatically came as Jan 15. Anything from Jan 1 is countable. I will try to change the dates if possible.

Hi Viji,
Yes, that counts. You can read books by Indian authors, and even books set in India or books about India, for them to count towards this challenge.

2) The Taliban Cricket Club by Timeri N. MurariThe book is set in Afghanistan but the author is Indian.
I'm in.. 1 down, 9 more to go.1.The Moonstone - A fantastic read.Written in 1868,Moonstone is widely regarded as the first detective novel written in English. It follows the course of a precious temple diamond stolen from India into the UK. First half is characterised by extremely witty narration, slackens a bit in the middle, and has a nicely narrated ending.Happy to have started the year with this one.

3) Delhi by Khushwant Singh4) Un'isola di mistero : seguito delle avventure di viaggio di Dalle caverne e dalle giungle dell'Indostan by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky
The author is Russian but the book talks about her journey in India at the end of the 19th century.

Great. I'd heard many crime and detective authors pointing to Agatha as their inspiration.I googled to find who Agatha's inspiration was and found that it was Wilkie Collins, the author of Moonstone.Started reading it the same day.

Have read a couple of delicious Vish Puri mysteries by Tarquin Hall. Though the author is foreign, the books are set in India and seem to be written by an Indian. Also, currently reading 'The Way things were' by Aatish Taseer. Came to know of the book thru Smitha.
That makes it 13 for the year in Indian fiction.

Read Vish Puri #3 - The Case of the Deadly Butter Chicken by Tarquin Hall - 3/5. Have saved #4 for my Diwali trip. Also, finished Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts which reminded me quite a bit of Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra. Both deal with Mumbai AKA Bombay ;) and its dark underbelly at quite some length. 3.5/5
