This book is written in the first person, and at the end we discover that the narrator (maybe her name is Kate?) was the one killing everyone -- we don't know this for 90% of the book, though! It's very tense, we get down to the final 3 teens left alive, and we're worrying if our narrator is the next to get murdered, then she reveals to the last guy left (maybe named James?) that she has been killing everyone. I read this book in the mid 90s, and believe it was published in the 80s or 90s. My copy had a black cover with a school bus on it. I THINK either the word "love" or "goodbye" is in the title? This has been driving me crazy. Would be so grateful for help finding this book!

Ooh, this sounds super familiar to me, and the author of Class Trip (Bebe Faas Rice) looks right. So even if this isn't Julia's book, this helps me!
Oh my goodness, this is it!!!! This forum is AMAZING!!! Thank you Rainbowheart, this has been bugging me on and off for YEARS. I have no idea how you found it from my totally egregious description. Thank you!
Awesome, glad to help out! This one has actually come up a ton of times before. A lot of people remember it.
It was such a weird twist to have at the end. I mean, it was way before the trope of the unreliable narrator became so popular. But I also remember feeling like it wasn't particularly well done -- and not really what I wanted out of a YA book. I'm not surprised a lot of people vaguely remembered it.
