Soooo, are you meals going to be wrath inducing? Or ignite the inner fire?

Entirely possible. Like pizzas with fruit on them, for a start! that always winds people up (for the record: WRONG! fruit has no home on a pizza)

Plus, we are the Dholes from Wobble, so expect some raw meat and large haunches!

How about Brownies?! 😉

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Well... I'm the one that liked peaches and pineapple on her chicken salad...

You know... like this:

argh! nooooo! in general I abhor sweet fruit in my savoury foods. I pick out sultanas from couscous, for instance. As a pescatarian I can avoid the questions like "duck a l'orange"; duck with cherries; duck with etc etc (why's it always duck that gets foisted with fruit?!) then I heard of a "classic" dish of sole with grapes and had to go lie down in a darkened room for a bit!

That’s just too much mixing of food groups.

Like original cornish pasties as taken down t'pits back in the day: half with the mince & veg and half with pudding. Imagine if you bit into the wrong end first! Also, the pudding half would still have been made with savoury style pastry, surely? glad I didn't have to endure it!

message 12: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I love raisins and nuts ANYWHERE

And apples and berries and peaches and grapes are great additions to summer salads.

Eni doesn't like fruit, so I need to have the extra step to not cross contaminate food, hence I don't do it as often...

message 13: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments And yes, I like fruit in pizza too.

But I'm weird since I'm not a fan of pepperoni

message 14: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 13161 comments *sits munching on a coronation chicken sandwich she just made. With sultanas!*

But fruit can be soooo delicious in a savoury meal. Pork & apple casserole, sweet & sour chicken, lemon chicken, chicken & pineapple pizza. chicken goes really well with fruit, lol.

And since tomatoes are a fruit too, that would be about 2/3 of my repertoire out the window :P

Ditto! Love salami, chorizo and pretty much everything else, but pepperoni has a horrible aftertaste...

message 16: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'm Portuguese... we have tons of different chorizo variations... pepperoni is not a good one.

You mean it wasn't on the top 5 already?! Pshhh..

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2140 comments Nothing wrong with pineapple on a pizza... Sultanas on the other hand are abominations.

I think it will come OK in the end. I think we'll want to bung in an extra column or two to note down spell out letters and food&drink mentions, so we can work out our spread of options for meals.

Did we decide on a team name? and restaurant name (obvs could be the same if we are uninspired!)

message 23: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5986 comments Options for team Name / Restaurant name

Sarah Suggested Dholes with Sole
Pat Dholes Dragging dinner home, or Kitchen NIghtmares
Cat Dholes Diner
I will put in The Dhole Domaine - maybe as restaurant name

Are there any more suggestions

Personally I like Dholes with Sole for team name we could use one of the others for Restaurant name what does anyone think

message 24: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5707 comments Yes, on it be useful have those extra columns.

As for name, I don’t mind really. I can never come up with team names.

I'm pretty sure your fashion sense is better as well.

But it would be cool if you had your own battle cat.

That it would! We never watched much He-Man when we were growing up, but did have a LOT of Thunder-thunder-thundercat! and also Dogtanian (woof woof!)

message 36: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I watched He-Man, She-Ra and Thundercats.

Also Defenders of the Earth, which curious enough, I'm the only one on my age range that remembers it!

message 37: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I had to google Dogtanian. We had that one too. We called it Dartacão.

Cão = Dog.

Oh I don't know.... He-man, Thundercats and even She-ra had not long ago remakes.

My niece checked a few episodes of She-ra and the princesses of power on Netflix.

I suspect the puns on The Three Musketeers is more than somewhat lost in translation :(

message 42: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Nope. We got that too.

Musketeers translates as Mosqueteiros

So we had Dartacão and the three Moscãoteiros

Still so long to go!

A heads up : we've incentivised the BOMs again. Though I'll understand if the first one doesn't excite (Chain of Gold). October's adult one is Circe, which I absolutely don't mind rereading (esp as it works as a one book option for SRC 15 point task)

message 46: by ✿~Danielle~✿ (last edited Sep 15, 2020 06:01AM) (new)

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5707 comments I’m not sure on Chain of Gold.
Circe is on scribd (I think), so I’ll probably read that one and I already have Truly Devious, the YA one from the last round of uno that I didn’t read then.

message 47: by Sarah (last edited Sep 15, 2020 10:21AM) (new)

Sarah | 2140 comments I've put a hold on Circe at the library, don't mind reading it again. I'll probably try to do the other two.

I'm patiently sitting on a library book with vinegar in it. I will not start it until we're off!

And I've just requested access to the team spreadsheet as I can't even view it.

message 48: by Marie (UK) (last edited Sep 16, 2020 02:21PM) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 5986 comments i really am not a lover of the books of the month. I find the questions wind me up. I will try to do at least one but it just isnt the way i read noemally

ETA offered to do DQs for Truly Devious

may join in circe but need to find a different fit in SRC and have read before

message 49: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10153 comments Mod
Don't worry too much about the BOMs - it just gives us more flexibility with getting the right customers, really.

Everyone ready for the start tomorrow? Kick-off is 10pm UK time, so realistically I'm not going to be starting any books until Sunday morning - and that'l include Chain of Gold (the first BOM)

As the best books for this challenge will be longer ones, I've a few chunksters, which I am hoping have sufficient food words! The Well of Ascension, The Hero of Ages and Steel Crow Saga among my planned books. Turf Wars might start suffering...

message 50: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10153 comments Mod
oh, Sarah's comment reminds me: can everyone access the sheet?
request access through the sheet if you can't.

I know it looks horrendous, but you only really need to add information to the Books Read tab, and then we'll discuss every so often what meals we want to make, to keep on top of that as a group :)
