I'm a bit excited because professionals from the Outlander series are part of this project. We know how great that's going.
Jonetta wrote: "Let's hope it actually sees the light of day in production."Oh gosh I hope it makes it to the light of day! This would be a REALLY good series for television.
And that's something to look for... imagine casting actors for those roles.
And hopefully it will be some time since we read the books and the release of the show. I think people tend to be less sensitive to the "errors" that way ;)

I love this trilogy so much! Which could be why this scares me a little, but if they did it right it would be awesome!!
I've seen all the Nora Roberts movies except Sanctuary and Magic Moments and have disliked all of them except Carolina Moon. And even that wasn't "great."I would love to see this and more of Nora Roberts' books hit the big screen, but at the same time I cringe as the track record of quality and such with her books to movies has been seriously disappointing.
I haven't liked any of the Lifetime movies either, primarily because of poor casting. Hopefully, this one will have a better fate.
I loved Midnight Bayou
both as a book and the movie. Is there a list anywhere of the NR books that have been made into movies? I got a Facebook notice from Sandra Brown that a movie of White Hot
is on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries cable channel. I don't get that one and my all access cable daughter won't record it because I still haven't watched all the Outlander's yet.

I believe the cast was not the problem.
Per si the actors aren't... well, shopped liver ;)... but for me the problem is cutting scenes that we - readers - find paramount in the books. I don't want to stray from this topic - feel free to delete my post, Adm - but in Northern Lights I love the choice for Meg. I really could see LeAnn Rimes pull Meg "things" (even the ones I considered crude) but the movie wasn't as daring... and the proposal marriage scene which always make me sigh of pleasure was completely lost in the movie.
So, girls, let's have this for what it is - Books rule! ;)

I love this book series. It might be one of my favorites yet. I just need some news and can't find any anywhere since last year. I need to see these characters come to life already!
You might post a question on Nora's FB page about the status. My experience with these options is you won't hear anything until it shifts into development.
I would love it if they did this. I just love the trilogy!!
The transfer of a novel into a movie has to be a tricky thing. Six hundred or so pages of content has to be fit into two hours of film. Clearly, something has to be cut. Plus, not everything in the book will be easily portrayed in a movie. Budget and technical limitations may come into play. Once a screenplay is written, based on the book, it has to be translated onto film/video. The beauty of a book is it provides the audience with the power of the visual in the mind. Not so for the film. When a movie comes from well known book, there are going to be preconceived pictures in our minds and that is going to cause some conflict. When the Lifetime movies come out, I had to remind myself that they were "based" on Nora Roberts books, rather than her books on film.
Great points, Kerri.
STARZ's recent production of the Outlander series into television is a fantastic example of effectively translating books to film. Not everything is literal as it's a different medium but the producer has done an amazing job in understanding the story and nailing the translation, including casting. It can be done successfully.

Exactly, Jonetta.Add to it the fact that it's all subjective. What I may see as a great translation, another reader/viewer may not.
I was thinking of the Little House on the Prairie series. There were many changes from the books, yet the show was a big success, on tv for many years. Based on, inspired by. It think in Little House's case, it started as a "based" and developed from there.
Not quite so subjective with Outlander as the author is a very active consultant to the TV series. It's probably why the objectives of the story feel represented in the series.
I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder's books and loved the series but they seemed completely different. "Based" seems appropriate in this circumstance.

I know it's been a while but has anyone heard any news about this? If someone put this on TV I would absolutely watch it.
