Patricia McGerr

This authoress worked steadily from the late 1940s up to the early 1970s; yet almost no one today has even heard of her. It doesn't help that she sometimes wrote under pseudonyms. But she was respected enough as an authoress to have a seat on the Mystery-Writers-of-America-Board. Her primary series protagonist is one, 'Selena Mead'.

McGerr straddled several genres at once: suspense, crime, murder, gothic romance..and espionage. These are her crime novels:
Pick Your Victim, 1946.
The Seven Deadly Sisters, 1947.
Catch Me If You Can, 1948.
Save the Witness, 1949.
Follow, As the Night, 1950.
For Richer, for Poorer, Till Death, 1969.
Death in a Million Living Rooms, 1951.
Fatal in My Fashion, 1954.

And these more related to counter-espionage and intrigue:
Is There a Traitor in the House? 1964.
Stranger with My Face, 1968.
Match Point in Berlin, 1971
Dangerous Landing, 1975.

Worth a look sometime, if you like digging up obscure works.

Another authoress in a similar vein: Clare Francis.
