I've never been much into poetry, but I am really enjoying this book. There are different styles, poets, themes... it's VERY enjoyable and quite different from what I usually read.

"Longing" by Matthew Arnold

Julia, I really like William Butler Yeats and Matthew Arnold in general. These particular poems are great. I also like this famous one by Yeats: "Lake Isle of Innisfree" http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aCkHy3MlRFQ And this one by Matthew Arnold is somewhat depressing but also wonderful: "Dover Beach" http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1lhYGreRA6c
I've heard of Yeats, Browning, Kipling - but I have not hear of the majority of these poets. So far though, even though I haven't heard of the poet, I really enjoy the majority of the poems I've been reading. Thanks for the links to the "Lake Isle of Innisfree" and "Dover Beach". I enjoyed them very much!
Some of them are new to me too! - I'm enjoying all your links :) A lot of the older narrative poetry especially is new to me, but I like it!
"Song" by Christina Georgina Rossettihttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVlMB...
"Remember" by Christina Georgina Rossetti
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m53D...
"Sudden Light" by Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Tonight is the first time I've read these poems, and "Remember" really hit me on a personal level. Yesterday was a year that I lost my younger cousin after a 2 year battle w/ CA. Some people might say that I'm insensitive, but toward the end, he was suffering so much his passing was a blessing in disguise. And as much as I, and the rest of my family, expected it, his death was still a devastating blow. Reading the poem "Remember" just brought back all of the emotions to the surface. Although I will never forget him, I think now I'll be able to smile now when I remember him, and not just be sad.
Thanks for sharing 'Remember' and what it means to you. I think what you felt about your cousin suffering is very common and not at all insensitive. I say this from experience in my personal life and in from my work in healthcare.

Poems I've Read 05-2015 - None, I have to get cracking..
I'm enjoying them more than I thought I would. Once I'm finished reading the series, I'll watch the movies.
Should I embarrass myself by admitting that I waited in the midnight lines for some of the books? Ha, ha.
The first ones I ordered the UK versions because I liked some of the language better - "philosopher's stone" instead of "sorcerer's stone", etc. Plus the UK kids covers had cool art. But then later on I just couldn't wait for them to be shipped; so I started to buy the US versions the day they came out.

I started reading the 1st one a couple of years ago, but for some reason it didn't take. I picked it back up a couple of weeks ago and couldn't put it down. I guess I just had to wait for the right time.
A friend of mine sent me the first 2 as a gift from the UK around the time the 2nd one came out, either for my birthday or Christmas - I can't remember which. After that I was hooked! I started ordering the UK versions, etc.
No not really Julia - the American versions have different American words for some things, like "line" instead of "queue," etc. Also I like that the UK version calls it "philosopher's stone" in the first one (instead of "sorcerer's stone" as it is in the US version) because "philosopher's stone" makes me think of the alchemists. And the overall small British terminology changes give it a more exotic feel for me since I'm more familiar with the American terms. I like that exotic feel for Harry Potter :)
The covers are a bit more colorful too - for instance here's the UK cover for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix":

But mostly I think I stuck with the UK versions at first because they remind me of my friend who mailed me the first two. :)

Interesting. I bought the first four when I lived in the UK and then I think the rest in Canada. Wyatt has all the American ones too.
Right now I'm reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, how do I find out if it is the edition released in the US or UK? I'd like to go back and read the UK editions of the books I've already read.
The first one is easy - it has a different title :) The UK version is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and the US version is titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
I'll take a peek tonight to see if there's an easy way to tell the versions on the other ones.
