IMO, it depends on the story. For YA, I'd say two/three years at most. Like real life, because teens can be super literal...or at any rate, I was. If the characters are in their twenties, though, age isn't that important.

In real life, I would say a completely different number, but in YA.... honestly, nowadays anything goes. But I personally prefer no more than five years. Unless they're immortal, I guess? Then it doesn't matter as much to me.
