Vivek Kumar | 3 comments There are lots of books on lots of different topics. What do you want to read ?

Do you want to read about the history of ancient india ? The science mentioned in the vedas, and diff texts ? You want to know different "mytholigical" stories and their different interpretations ?

The genres are as vast as Santana itself.

Rachita Joshi - The queen of books (rachitajoshi) | 10 comments I have already read quite many interpretations of different mythological stories. Have read the Shiva Trilogy and the Ram Chandra Series by Amish Tripathi. I am even going to try Sanyasi Yoddha based on Golu Devta of Uttarakhand. I would like to try the history of the ancient India. Thinking to begin from Suheldev. If any other good books, then plz recommend. Books that teens would like. I was very much attracted by the Shiva Trilogy. It was really good. :)

Vikrant Rana | 4 comments If you liked Amish's work (which is a very different fictional interpretation) , you would like various series under "Amar Chitra Katha" which are more closer to traditional storylines.

message 5: by Vikrant (new)

Vikrant Rana | 4 comments It also helps that AMC are basically graphical novels, which should catch the imagination of teens.

sharan Kanike | 7 comments The bitter truth you cant read Completely the Hindu mythology. it took your whole life to complete only Veda's (don't have existed authentically) itself.

But let me guide you, to enjoy the essence of Hindu mythology.

To understand the Hindu mythology clearly, start with Hindu monk written books like,

autobiography of an yogi- paramahamsa yogananda.

why I choosen this book: it will take you along with it to the mystic india at 1910's. the best part of this book is, you too feel the sacredness of India and Hinduism.

complete works of Vivekananda- swami Vivekananda published by Ramakrishna Matt

why I chosen this: Swami Vivekananda without any mercy cut the ignorance and superstitions. it will help you to understand what real Hinduism is.

meditation and spiritual life- swami yatheeswarananda.

gospel of Ramakrishna paramahamsa by Sri 'M' published by Ramakrishna Matt

god lived with them - swami chetananda

they lived with god- Swami chetananda

why I chosen the above books: they direct you to know what exactly Hinduism is and all these books try to replicate the sacred era of India.

journey home: radhanath swami

why I chosen this book: radhanath swami travels from United States to India by bare hands and foot. his journey will overwhelm you.

search in secret india- Paul brinton

why I chosen this: Paul brinton is a journalist himself, tried to wrote what actual sacred India has.

letters from Sri Ramana ashramam(two volumes) - Suri nagamma

why I chosen this: this will help you to understand the scenarios of 1940 or before beliefs and Hinduism practices.

listen to the speeches of, maha periyava Chandrasekharendra saraswathi. why I suggested is,

whenever he delivers a speech it will be published atleast of 50 international magazines/newspapers including BBC news, next day.

now, it's time to read and understand real Hinduism mythology.

bagavath Geetha as it is - by iskon

you can get best available Hinduism works from "Geetha press- Gorakhpur"

valmiki written Ramayana

all Upanishads around 108

all Puranas around 18

then four Veda's.

I tried to help, I hope this information is just a lil drop.

Rachita Joshi - The queen of books (rachitajoshi) | 10 comments Any idea from where can i get vedas and upanishads?

message 25: by Kanike (new)

sharan Kanike | 7 comments reading in Sanskrit is the best way to understand Upanishads, Puranas, and Veda's.

Gita press Gorakhpur publications will help you in this way. unless you are in a village, you can get Gita press publications from any nearest reputed and spiritual book stores(even in tier-2 towns) in India. the best part of Gita press books is, they explain Sanskrit slokas word by word in your maternal language, and they are less in price with better paper and font quality.

search for books in this official websites too,

https://www.iskcon.org/

https://rkmath.org/

https://www.sriramanamaharshi.org/

if you want I can send you(whatever I have) available soft copies of Hindu mythology based books in .mobi, .epub, and .pdf format.

@Kanike - Thank You so much for the learning resources. I believe the true essence of vedas, upanishads are in reading them in Sanskrit. The english translation doesn't do justice to them.

Brian C. Holley | 1 comments Hi Rachita. I got into Hindu mythology through the work of the late Joseph Campbell. He was regarded as the world's leading comparative mythologist in his day. His books The Power of Myth, Hero with a Thousand Faces and The Masks of God helped me put Hindu mythology into the wider context, which I found most helpful. One of my favourite books is The Upanishads, translated by Eknath Easwaran. He also translated the Bhagavad Gita and his versions are very accessible. Best wishes.

Hi Rachita,

https://www.amazon.com/Upanishads-Bre...

This book gave me a good introduction to the 10 most important upanishads.

Also do check out https://www.amazon.com/Madhusudana-Sa... - one of the best commentaries on Bhagvad Gita

Richard Turilli | 1 comments So many "Western" books fail to include wisdom from the "Eastern" perspective. THE ART OF WAR AND BASEBALL does a great job of nonchalantly incorporating inputs from all cultures and walks of life (including quotes from the Bhagavad Gita) within the background of America's Pastime: www.TheArtofWarAndBaseball.com
