Our October pick will be Finder by Suzanne Palmer.

One cool thing to note is that if you're an Audible subscriber this book appears to be included in their new collection of stuff you can borrow at no additional charge.

Shannon Clark | 10 comments In a first a book I’ve already read and just recently! Had checked it out of the library just before the Pandemic and only managed to read it 6 months later.

But really good pick!

Seth | 792 comments Really liked this one, enough that I think I'll read it over again.

Tamahome | 7242 comments Nice cover.

Eva I've just read it and liked it a lot, looking forward to hearing what you guys think about it! Btw, it's also available on Storytel if you have that.

Sweet!

These new Audible perks haven't reached the UK yet, but I don't mind spending a credit to give this a try.

Not available as an eBook in Australia, but we all should know by now how to get it from the US Kindle store 😎

Fun Fact: This the 100th book we've read by a US author

Which is a weird coincidence, because the book is exactly 100 pages long. (Plus 297 pages.)

Sheila Jean | 330 comments I found it available on Hoopla at my library.

Rick Not going to read this one...

Because I already did. Fun book. Look forward to the discussion.

I saw that I could just play it but it doesn't label itself like "You have access to this, congratulations" so I was confused. I've never heard of this so I'm looking forward to it.

Mark (markmtz) | 2822 comments If you're on the fence, here's a review (with some spoilers) of Finder published in Locus Magazine

https://locusmag.com/2019/05/paul-di-...

I read it shortly after Silvana suggested it in Tom's book thread and got a kick out of it. I'll be reading the next book in the series soon.

Tamahome | 7242 comments "Palmer tells a fluid, funny, thrilling tale with no longueurs."

Good word, lol.

lon·gueur
/lôNGˈɡər/
noun
plural noun: longueurs
a tedious passage in a book or other work.
"its brilliant comedy passages do not cancel out the occasional longueurs"
Definitions from Oxford Languages
("length" in French)

Me: "The longueur makes the book feel longer."

Trike | 11254 comments I quite liked Finder. Spaceship repoman!

Here’s the delightful map of the system where most of the book takes place:

Here's my #map of Cernekan, a space settlement consisting of various habitations connected by cables for the awesome book 'Finder' by @zanzjan Suzanne Palmer (#DAWBooks #PenguinRandomHouse)
I'm really enjoying drawing sci-fi maps :)https://t.co/fW59pvnkWH pic.twitter.com/DmsK5Qleah

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5209 comments About 10% of the way in and it's pretty funny. There's a serious plot but the whole concept is silly. I may have to start playing the Repo Man soundtrack. And is there a trunk with mysterious golden glow in the vehicle to be repo'd?

I need to watch that movie. I wonder if any of the many streaming services we're paying for has it.

Looks like it's only on Starz: https://reelgood.com/movie/repo-man-1984

The second one is a bit different. But there is a cat!
And I’m waiting for the third one.

Damnit! I gave up Starz when I switched to Spectrum Streaming.
I do plan on getting it again when American Gods comes back.

Eva Just to clarify: this book has nothing to do with that movie. ;-)

Thank you! I hadn’t even noticed it was in there!
I had checked it out of my local library but now I can return it so someone else can get it.

message 27: by John (Taloni) (new)

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5209 comments LA Public Library now has two copies available. I felt a little bad a week ago when I picked up the only available copy only to have two people behind me reserve it within hours, so I returned the book right away when done. For whatever reason there's now copies available, so anyone with an LAPL Overdrive can get it.
