Like the cover pic! It does look great. =)Hi, I'm Soo. I read loads of fiction and my favs tend to be fantasy & sci-fi.
Hi. I'm Nick. And I actually already read the book some time back. Haha!I'm just really curious to see what others think, I've been dying to talk about this book for some time.
No I won't spoil anything myself for you.
Nick, I'm glad you joined. Welcome! I knew you had read it, but since it sounded like you were interested in talking about it, was hoping to see you here. :)
Hi, I'm a fan of fantasy and sci-fi.I think will be starting this book tomorrow. Not I'm not already starting other books or anything :cough:
I'm Amelia, and I read mostly scifi/fantasy, some lit, and a mix of nonfiction. Perhaps made too optimistic by the cover and vague description (holding off on reviews to keep the surprise alive) I'm lowkey hoping that this will toy with ecological/environmental horror and commentary, maybe in line with some of VanDerMeer's work and an emerging trend?
I’m Nataliya. SFF is my go-to genre but I venture out into classic and lit fic and occasional nonfiction and at times YA, so I guess almost anything goes. I’m excited about the group read, haven’t done one in years. I’ll probably start on it some time this weekend.
Wow, glad you were able to fit it in and join us, Nataliya! That's one thing I love about the flash read.
Hi everyone! I’m Sam. I read widely, but my favourite genres are SFF, LGBT+ fiction and biographies. Never done a group read before so looking forward to this. I first became interested in this book after reading a rather excellent review in SFX magazine. I’ll be experiencing the book on audio, so I’m hoping the narration is good. The sample has me optimistic.
Welcome, Sam! Glad you are choosing this for your first group read. Soo seemed to really enjoy the audio, so that's hopeful!
The audiobook is great! The writing translated well to verbal format & the narrator did a nice job of making it come to life.
I’m glad I went with the audio, like Soo said the narration is excellent! A bit puzzled though why he’s doing a London accent rather than Yorkshire accent, but perhaps that would’ve been too hard to understand for some listeners.
Funny that the narrator has now switched to a Northern English accent for what I expect will be side characters. This is in chapter 40.

Thank you! Super interesting. I hadn't heard it much before, except, now that I think of it, I bet on the last season of The GB Baking Show. There was one woman --the vet--I could hardly understand when she really got going.

Haha yes I can remember there being one or two Northerners on The GB Bake-Off. I love that show. Especially when things go awry, as they often do. Great TV. :)
My goodness, it really was a fab show. My mom and I watched ALL the episodes. We were doing it leisurely, but quarantine put it on binge.
Hi, Mike here. Some months ago I read an intriguing review of the Koli books in Shelf Awareness and thought they sounded similar to Blake Crouch novels or Station Eleven, which I enjoyed. I'm about halfway through Book #1 and have ordered Book #2 and was probably much too giddy to find there was a "flash group" discussing the books. Looking forward to joining the discussions.
Hi Mike! Welcome! I finished both of Koli books, liked the first one more than the second. Happy to chat about them.
I still haven't gotten to the second one yet. My current physical TBR is very tall atm. So you're in good hands, Mike.
In the past month I have listened to the audio for the first two books of the Koli trilogy - they are well done and enhance the story in my opinion. This week I received and starting reading Book #3. Carol, from my cellphone I can see you created a thread for book #3 but I am unable to post to the thread. The topic thread for book #3 is not showing up for me at all on my ancient desktop that I'm typing this message on. Not sure if my settings are incorrect, it's a browser issue or if there some sort of "block" to the thread??
weird. threads can't be blocked, but maybe it doesn't think it is 'open.' Let me see if I can post.
Looks like you got it.
Looks like you got it.

I'm carol. love to read sci-fi, fantasy, end-of the world, and occasionally talk such topics, so I'm glad to have a group read.
I did a google search for 'Koli' and came up with 'Koli, Finland,' which looks amazing. That's our masthead.
The profile is a picture of a 'koli saree' which is (I think) a type of traditional Indian skirt-sarong that both men and women would wear.
