4.3 stars tbh :)

One false step and it had led to Alex's spell-binding experience in Medora. Indeed, the book has revolved mainly around her adventures in the mysterious, all-encompassing Library since she had arrived at Akarnae. Surrounded by somewhat demanding yet caring teachers, absolutely hyped up friends a roommate who seems to radiate blazing hatred at every possible moment, and a mysterious man with his mesmerizing eyes, his graceful stance, his dangerous motives...

I really enjoyed the fast-paced story and Alex's action packed classes, every one of them certainly different from the other. With the creative, unbelievably advanced tech and the heart warming scenes, I could never stop reading. Definitely a page turner and the book had me hooked to the end!

“Literature may increase one’s depth of knowledge, but not all knowledge be found in literature. Only with practical experience can one truly learn and thus be considered knowledgeable.”

This quote was priceless. Besides reflecting the core of the story, it made me think. True, nothing is better than experience. They make you learn, and feel as you absorb the essence of your adventure. Not everyone has adventures like the protagonists of stories but everyone has their own adventures in life. Adventures as you continue painting pages of your life, creating your own fairy tale. Whether it's a happily-ever-after ending or not, it is undeniable that we learn something from our failures, our victories and every move we've made in the attempts to achieve a goal.

My only criticism of this book was that the plot was almost predictable at times and kind of repetitive. I mean, there would be times when you would sigh to yourself and say ah, Alex would live of course! How could she die? or there would be patches of the story that sort of disappointed me. The endings were almost predictable and I would prefer that the author dropped in more subtle hints along the way instead of revealing them so much as the story progresses. I would also enjoy the entire story more perhaps if there were darker and more dangerous plots included. Don't mind me, I just can't stand the thought of everything and everyone coming out impeccably. And yes, you don't have to look at me like that, (view spoiler) To me, the ending was just too impeccable and a tad bit unrealistic but this is a fantasy story so no complaints here :)

I would totally recommend the book to every fantasy lover and even, anyone could read this! Undoubtedly, the language is rather simple and straightforward, the pace simple and brisk but overall it was an enjoyable read. You would never regret it one bit! The flaws above were merely my personal pet peeves I guess you could say and I repeat, they do not taint the quality of the story. Every single page, the author has magically reconstructed the wondrous world of Akarnae with the lively characters and if you really stop to go through the various quotes, you would find this book both entertaining and highly refreshing.
