Kira Navárez dreamed of life on new worlds.

During a routine survey mission on an uncolonized planet, Kira finds an alien relic. At first she's delighted, but elation turns to terror when the ancient dust around her begins to move.

I started this one early this morning. I only managed to get 50 pages in but loved all I initially read.

First quarter - (view spoiler)[I'm reading this a few pages a day and am LOVING all the time I spend within this book! I knew this romance was doomed as it was introduced so soon into the book and, not that I wanted a tragic death, but I'm honestly quite glad it wasn't the primary focus for too long. The weird black coating and emergence of an alien race are going to be super interesting to further explore, as the book progresses. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[I'm loving getting to know all of the Wallfish crew. They are a lovable group of unique outcasts, which is one of my favourite literary tropes.

I'm also enjoying learning more about the black skin suit. It was amazing properties and has saved Kira's life on more than one occasion. Also, since its discovery the Jellies are attacking and chasing the Wallfish crew, but a new alien race has also emerged that doesn't seem as hostile. I can't wait to learn what really caused such discontent between them all, historically. I feel there is much the present human race doesn't know as some past event is being hushed up. Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[I really didn't need to be intimidated by this chunky scifi at all, as it was written in such an accessible style. I've only read a handful of hard space sci-fi and those are heavy on their descriptions of and scientific explanations for how things function. This didn't do that but I still found it easy enough to understand what was going on and how everything was laid out. The fight scenes were written in the same easy to envision type of way, and they are another source of sometimes confusion for me. I just adored this and am really wanting to dive into ALL the epic sci-fi stories right now. Only if they feature a jellyfish alien race though ;) (hide spoiler)]

Part 1: Chapter 7
(view spoiler)[ Oh my gosh! Another alien! The ship torn apart and Kira into the void! (hide spoiler)] I’m feeling way too much right now. This is not the story I at all thought it would be.

Part 2: Chapter 4
(view spoiler)[ Oh my gosh they actually did it, they disabled one of the alien ships. I'm happy the crew is taking Kira's side and not locking her up and shipping her back to the military to be in an indefinite quarantine. At the same time, I think they're gonna board the alien ship and everyone's gonna die again except Kira and she'll be saddled with that again. (hide spoiler)]

Part 2: Chapter 12
(view spoiler)[ Okay so this book is out to get me. Every time I would flip through to find my book mark, it would stop on a page that started "'Pregnant' thought Kira." So I finally got to that chapter and so happy to report she's not pregnant. That would be screwed up on so many levels.
I'm starting to love the crew of the Wallfish. The entropists fascinate me. I'm glad that Kira is making friends and got a new concertina for her next stage of FTL travel. (hide spoiler)]

Part 4: Exuent
(view spoiler)[ Okay now he's gone and done it. I think we all knew something was up with Gregorovich, and I'm sad to say I don't think he's gone crazy, but it feels to me like he is malevolent. He's been biding his time and collecting his info and now he springs a move! Crickey getting intense now. (hide spoiler)]

I was right the arc Netgalley sent me is only the first part😫. Going to see if they have the audiobook on Audible.

End of part 1:

(view spoiler)[ So far so good. I’m really enjoying this. It’s very different to his other books but I absolutely love sci fi. I just hope the next few parts are as good if not better. I’m making my way through quite quick. Because of the length of the book I thought that it might drag in places but so far it hasn’t. I can’t wait to see more of what the Xeno can do. I just hope she makes it to the end of her journey alive. (hide spoiler)]

She’s been through so much tragedy already. I love Trig and the rest of the crew from the Wallfish. I feel like something could happen between Kira and Valkonie (hide spoiler)]

He kinda reminds me a little of AIDAN from Illuminae. I really need to read more books with crazy AI's because its honestly becoming one of my favourite things haha. Ha! Yes, space pig. That part I did not see coming. Although the longer I think about it, the more I like the idea of ship minds. What a beautiful possibility of existence for people whose bodies fail them before they're done living. I'm glad he didn't end up being malicious. I think that would have broken my heart. He sure was mischievous!
