Chess Readers and Writers discussion
Is there something about the gane of chess that makes it attractive to the seriously unhinged? This is one of the question asked in my novel Spurious Gmames. Any ideas??

A number of renowned chess masters throughout history have reportedly been mentally unbalanced, perhaps most notably Wilhelm Steinitz and Bobby Fischer. My best-loved quote on this subject was offered by one of my favorite writers, Vladimir Nabokov, who was also an avid chess player. In an interview in France, he said this about Fischer: "Yes, Fischer is a strange person, but there is nothing abnormal about a chess player being abnormal—this is normal."
