Worth the wait. Set in the Irish countryside with an American main character - an ex cop from Chicago with his own rural upbringing - the plot unfolds gradually at a pace suited to the setting. However, it's not a slow book; the plot and characters build and weave together with the author's usual skill and style, building to a strong finish; the final chapter is the best and raised my rating to 4.5/5 stars.

For those interested, this link provides nice overview (and ranking) of the author's books. I mostly agree with the order; In The Woods and The Likeness remain my favorites. However, I would place The Trespasser as 3rd best; and I would rank The Searcher above the The Witch Elm (for non Dublin Murder Squad books).
