Anna | 2 comments I read this trilogy when I was in 6th grade (2011-2012). It centered around a girl who lived with her mother, I think following the death of her father, and subsequently finds out that she is somewhat of a chosen one for a secret magical race. Her family has ties to organized crime (I think) and one of her uncles assigns her a bodyguard to protect her for reasons I don't think she knows. She ends up in a love triangle between her rough slightly older bodyguard and a boy her own age who is part of the magical race/society (fairies?!?!). I remember a scene in which the boy takes through an underground portal and they end up in New Orleans and she has beignets for the first time (she loves them). I don't remember much about the characters but the bodyguard has a buzz cut and I think his sister is in a wheelchair. The other love interest has dark hair and is classically pretty (the main character mentions eyelashes that brush his cheeks when he sleeps). Each book in the trilogy was a different color and as I recall the first one was a blue-ish purple, the second one was red, and the third was green, though the last two could be switched. In the final book, the main character has to go through a ceremony that has something to do with solidifying her fire powers. Major spoiler here, but she ends up with the magical pretty one and can never see her bodyguard again in order to protect him and his sister. If it helps I think she has an evil aunt and/or grandma.

Any help is appreciated, I'm kinda driving myself insane.
