I can hardly believe our group buddy read is starting Connections in Death, book 48! Can you? Wow. We've been doing this for 4 years now and will finally catch up to new releases in 2021! What fun!

So - up next is Connections in Death. In this gritty and gripping new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Eve Dallas fights to save the innocent—and serve justice to the guilty—on the streets of New York. Open discussion begins on the 8th! Please join us!

Homicide cop Eve Dallas and her billionaire husband, Roarke, are building a brand-new school and youth shelter. They know that the hard life can lead kids toward dangerous crossroads—and with this new project, they hope to nudge a few more of them onto the right path. For expert help, they hire child psychologist Dr. Rochelle Pickering—whose own brother pulled himself out of a spiral of addiction and crime with Rochelle’s support.

Lyle is living with Rochelle while he gets his life together, and he’s thrilled to hear about his sister’s new job offer. But within hours, triumph is followed by tragedy. Returning from a celebratory dinner with her boyfriend, she finds Lyle dead with a syringe in his lap, and Eve’s investigation confirms that this wasn’t just another OD. After all his work to get clean, Lyle’s been pumped full of poison—and a neighbor with a peephole reports seeing a scruffy, pink-haired girl fleeing the scene.

Now Eve and Roarke must venture into the gang territory where Lyle used to run, and the ugly underground world of tattoo parlors and strip joints where everyone has taken a wrong turn somewhere. They both believe in giving people a second chance. Maybe even a third or fourth. But as far as they’re concerned, whoever gave the order on Lyle Pickering’s murder has run out of chances…

Michelle | 2669 comments Sandra I can't belief were finally going to be caught up. Time for me to think what am I going to do with no Eve and Roarke there ever month. I better start thinking of who I can pester ask to lead the buddy reads.😊.

This should be interesting. This feels like it's going to be a new world that all this takes place in.

Phrynne | 373 comments It's quite possible I will start right back at the beginning again! Not sure I can manage without my monthly fix !

This is now a Spoiler Zone! Feel free to openly discuss Connections in Death.

I'm not finished, but go ahead & discuss. I took an unplanned trip to my son's & was away a couple of days. I'll try to finish tonight.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3072 comments I like this one a lot.

There are so many great Eve and Roarke moments starting at the beginning with Eve's internal dialogue about cocktail parties.

Roarke wanting Eve's opinion on hiring Dr. Rochelle Pickering even though he already did a background check. He even waited to send the final contract. He wants Eve involved with An Didean.

Eve telling Roarke how she would pay him back if he messed with her then through in a little dose for Summerset.

We reconnect with some past characters in this one! Who were you the most excited to see?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3072 comments I love Crack, but he is becoming a regular character lately. It is nice to have Det. Strong appear. I'm surprised that she is with a new beu. Matt works better with this story though. I can't remember her old cohab's name but I liked her with the big tough guy with the little dog.

Michelle | 2669 comments Sandra I couldn't pick one specifically. All of them is a joy to see again. I will say it was great to see the romantic Wilson and not the muscle Crack.

On the note of past characters being part of the story I can't wait to see if Trina if ever is part fo a case. Oh yes she was the friend of one once but it wasn't about her. I wonder if Robb has even thought of it. Anyway. Funny to think of.

Oh I like that idea! Trina would make for a great story, I think!

I loved Crack and his tie in to this one. I enjoy seeing characters make a reappearance in these books.
