Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I don't know that it ought to get you down, Carol...it's just that it seems to me that [redacted] comes relatively quickly in the story, and it's such a big part of the plot that it *is* hard to discuss without spoilers. I don't know if that says something about Heyer's development as a writer or not!

Yes, I don't think I've seen a copy that doesn't give it away in the blurb! And that [redacted] pretty much gave it away without even reading the blurb.

Hi there
Sorry not to get onto this a bit quicker, but I have been busy & I have guests coming this weekend.

I've moved the above posts from These Old Shades read, but removed names as I'm not trying to call anyone out.

To be honest I was a bit surprised by this

I am wondering. Does everyone read the first post in the first thread of our group reads? We require this - even if you are a long time member.

Critterbee made the first post stronger than usual & put the bit about using spoiler tags in bold. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Don't know how to create spoiler tags on Goodreads? Critterbee created a thread. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

She also put the directions in the Group Rules - which everyone should read before posting (I can't think of any moderated group on GR that doesn't require members to read the rules before posting.) https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... NB: We will have to update the rules as our third moderator left quite a while ago.
Edit: For new members Christy B the creator of this group, no longer reads heyer & isn't active in this group.
If you find the directions unclear click on (some html is ok) above the comment box for GR's explanation

I know some of you think it isn't possible to spoiler this read because of spoilers on book jackets & in book descriptions on Goodreads, but as I have said - I first read this book as a jacketless hardcover at my grandmother's. Another member also read this book without knowing what the book is about - well until she saw the open spoilers anyway!

So in summary - we aren't trying to stop our members posting spoilers in the first & second threads. We are asking members to use spoiler tags which members can choose to click on if they already know the book inside out.

Finally, please remember that Critterbee works full time & that I live in a different time zone from just about everyone. :)

Aileth | 4 comments Thank you! I didn't know about the spoiler tags and it's so useful.

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments Totally appreciate all the hard work you and Critterbee put in Carol.
I think you both do a sterling job and I for one will try my hardest not to put in spoilers where they shouldn't be. It's happened when I've been on my phone late at night and is definitely accidental because I thought I was in the spoiler thread! apologies - will do better!

No worries!

I'm just about to put the Devil's Cub threads up, & this time we are going to try something different. The read will just have two threads - no spoilers (or use spoiler tags) and the spoiler thread.

I think this will be simpler for everyone. :)
