What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book in high school, around 2011. The plot has to do with an ordinary man living his life, with its struggles and bumps, when murders start happening around him having to do with his problems. At one point he receives a call from the killer, saying that they're doing it to help him. I think the murders also had playing cards related to each of the victims.

That's all I remember, I'm sorry if it's really vague.

Hi Rainbowheart, the character is an adult man, as far as I remember.

I believe it is YA, but I could be very wrong.

I had a lead with the "Instinct" series, by James Patterson. Currently investigating that, but I don't believe it's what I'm looking for.

Not sure if it's an exact match (I don't remember the plot exactly) but your description makes me think of I Am the Messenger
