Progressing quite slowly with this (preoccupied with other commitments for a while), but, so far, really like what I've read of the first few pages. The easy tone, meeting Banks' friends, his vivid recollection of the past, everything strikes a congenial cord with me. Sir Ishiguro's slow burns are actually pretty darn sweet :)
Finished around 85 pages. Love this memory as an evolving image theme in general. Ishiguro, unlike in the earlier books, makes the narrator himself so confused and unreliable!

"England 1930s. Christopher Banks has become the country's most celebrated detective, his cases the talk of London society. Yet one unsolved crime has always haunted him : the mysterious disappearance of his parents, in old Shanghai, when he was a small boy. Moving between London and Shanghai of the inter-war years, When we were Orphans is a remarkable story of memory, intrigue and the need to return."
The book was nominated for Booker prize.
