Saving Room for all of my buffet items.
May not get them all, but planning ahead just in case. Stay tuned, it takes me a long time to think through these challenges.

No, I won't be doing ALL of the challenges, but haven't decided which ones I will do and wanted to save a spot before a conversation gets started.

I always try the A-Z challenges, but haven't quite finished them in the past couple of years. But I have found some great new authors by working through these.

The Old & New Challenge is my nemesis. I have not ever completed this one yet, but I keep trying. Honestly, it is a good one for planning just to remind me what is on my reading list.

I'm sure I'll choose some of the others also, probably group reads and short stories because those I do anyway and it makes me feel good to get to check off some challenges as done!

message 13: by Luke (new)

Luke (korrick) Good luck, Katy! I'll only for sure be doing two of these, but the new ones look interesting enough for me to reserve a spot or two for them.

For me, the planning is half the fun! So I will think about what I want to read.

I'm planning on dieting this year too. Several are just to good to pass up, I guess that is why my past diets fail. Oh well.

Nice list! I'm interested in your thoughts on The Leopard. That one has been on my radar for awhile and I think I should probably read it, but don't know much about it. I'll watch for your comments. Enjoy your reading :)

message 18: by Brina (new)

Brina Great idea, using previous group reads. I found Anna Karenina accessible but then I find most Russian literature accessible. I used this edition Anna Karenina because the translators are highly regarded if that helps.

It has been on my TBR sometime in the future list too long. So this might give me the push I need.

Nice, that is the copy that I have to read!

message 21: by Angie (new)

Angie | 489 comments Great choices, Katy. I read Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl in college. It's quite good. Anna Karenina is one my personal favorites. Beautiful characterizations from Tolstoy.

If my in-person (well, currently on Zoom) book club has its way, I'll probably read The Bell Jar this year.

message 22: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5445 comments I loved Anna, and Much Ado About Nothing is wonderful, I think. Hope you enjoy them all, Katy!

I still need to come up with two alternates.

message 24: by Brina (new)

Brina You can always use two more group reads to give you reason to get them read.

Nice choices, Katy. You have someone on your challenge that I really MUST get to, Emile Zola. Seems terrible to me that I have never read him. Hope you enjoy all this good reading in the new year.

I haven't read him either, thus a must on my list.

Challenge #2 – Does a Century Make a Difference?

Select 10 books from any single year of interest, then select 10 more from 100 years earlier, for a total of 20 books. List your choices for other members to explore.

Here is my my list for you all to explore. Any on the list that you think I really need to read for this challenge.

What an interesting collection of books I've never read, Katy! Such a great variety. The ones I find most tempting are The Portrait of a Lady, the Octavia Butler which is sure to be good, and Cosmos, which I've always wanted to read. Great ideas--enjoy your challenge!
