Janice (jamasc) | 60695 comments Thanks, Almeta.

I've got Alone on the Wall (mountain climbing) in that slot. Maybe this year, I can get it off my challenge lists.

No, but I'm a fan of Alex's. Every year, my friend and I go to the Banff Mountain Film Festival (except this year). People submit films of extreme sports, and the committee views and adjudicate them. They get hundreds of submissions each year. The winning films are taken and shown around the world. Usually there's a film of Alex. We're always disappointed when there isn't.

I don't think it's intented is to be a piece of jewelry. It looks more like a magical artifact. I have this book and I wouldn't consider it for this task.

Odette (odman) | 997 comments Here is a suggestion for a sports related book. As I have already read this book, I am still looking for one;
Barracuda by Christos Tsiolkas

Odette (odman) | 997 comments 3. Collection - Chimú Funerary Attire
Task: Read a book with jewelry on the cover.

Is someone wearing the jewelry on the cover OK for this task?

I have 2 books in mind
1. The Price of Paradise
The Price of Paradise by Susana López Rubio
2. The Traitor's Girl
The Traitor's Girl by Christine Wells

On both covers someone is wearing earrings. Tbe first cover they are more elaborate, the second are just smaller pearl earrings.

I would say yes to Price of Paradise because the earring is very prominent and your eye immediately goes to it.

The second one would not work because it's not prominent and so inconsequential.

Thanks very much, Janice. I agree about the earring being more prominent on the cover of the Bird of Paradise.

Sorry, I believe I'd made an earlier ruling that crowns and tiaras are headpieces and not jewelry.

message 17: by Abby (new)

Abby | 265 comments Ok, thanks. I didn't know because crowns are a cross between jewelry and a really over the top hat that only royalty can wear. :)

message 18: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60695 comments They do have jewels in them, but their purpose is what makes the differentiation.

Any two of the three initials, in any order, will work.

Would Miss Pym Disposes work for sport as a theme? It is set at a physical training college and there is a lot about the curriculum which includes dance, gymnastics and other sports (for example there is a cricket match). So far I’m about 60% in and so far the accident mentioned in the blurb has not occurred yet - the story so far is about the students, teachers, the end of year exams and sporting demonstrations.

Also, is this cover ok for jewellery on the cover:

Hangman's Holiday Lord Peter Wimsey Book 9 by Dorothy L. Sayers
