Any suggestions for a book with a man wearing a hat on the cover? I found plenty of women, but all my men have issues - too far away to be the focus of the cover, I already read the book, book is too short, not the version I own, etc. I only found one that works so far.
I don't own the correct cover, but my library has it. :) I'm looking for other options in case I'm not in the mood for that one.

Here's the first in the series
Marie Claude wrote: "If you like Fantasy, I think the Dresden series would work... Am I right Janice?"Thank you. That's one of the ones that I've already read, Marie Claude. I thought most of them in the series were too far away. There are a couple closer ones, but I've already read them.
I'm up to
which you can hardly see the hat. I skipped ahead & already read
which is, of course, the one with the best hat view. lolOf course after posting this, I finally started to find more. Janice, can you let me know if these are close or central focused enough for the task? I'll pull out any that don't work from my options.

Kristie Yes to Abraham Lincoln.
Yes to What Angels Fear
Yes to Invisible Man
Iffy to The Yard & The Lost Wife, especially since you have better options

Thanks, Janice. I will pull out The Yard, The Lost Wife, and Babylon's Ark. Should I pull Clockwork Angel too? He's sort of tipping his hat.
Sorry about the rabbit hole. I think I've been at it too long today. I only found one that worked after looking at 800 book covers in my TBR and google wasn't very helpful with this one. After I posted I found a few hatted men in the next couple of hundred books. Sometimes having an obnoxious TBR is helpful, sometimes not so much.
Ok, I've been researching art and gophering books all day. That is the second spiral I've gone down, so I think it is time to move on to doing something else. lol
Kristie wrote: "Thanks, Janice. I will pull out The Yard, The Lost Wife, and Babylon's Ark. Should I pull Clockwork Angel too? He's sort of tipping his hat.."Yes, Clockwork Angel was a no for me.
Tell me about it. I found a few rabbit holes when I was creating the challenge.
No problem, I'll get rid of that one too. Thanks again for your patience and help with all these questions!
Different kind of hat, but I found
. I know it has been translated to English and other languages, but I don't know if those covers have hats too.edit: maybe the French version does, but not the English.

The second one is better. The first is hard because the hats get washed out.
Haha, I can't read a whole book in French unfortunately ;-)The white may be a bit washed out because it's always a bit small on GR, but I have the paperback and they're clearly visible there and stand out more from the background. Is that okay?
Jannene wrote: "Will this work for hat,

lol! I looked at that book for this task too, but couldn't tell if he was wearing a hat or not. I will read it eventually!
Kristie - most of the Sherlock Holmes books and a lot of the Hercule Poriot books have them wearing hats on the covers. Baseball players wear hats too. 😉
Cherie wrote: "Kristie - most of the Sherlock Holmes books and a lot of the Hercule Poriot books have them wearing hats on the covers. I did not think of Sherlock. 🤦🏼♀️ How could I not think of Sherlock?? lol
Dan Simmons (wrote Drood above from Janice) has another book cover of Holmes and Watson both wearing hats. They are in profile.
As someone pointed out to me in the thread about beards, Santa Clause wears a hat (as do all of the elves and Mrs Clause). 😉
Cherie wrote: "As someone pointed out to me in the thread about beards, Santa Clause wears a hat (as do all of the elves and Mrs Clause). 😉"True!! That would be great if reading for the task the beginning of January or waiting until the end of next year.
Kristie wrote: "True!! That would be great if reading for the task the beginning of January or waiting until the end of next year..."It could be me - at either end! 'o)
For the hat . . . is his ballcap on the left clear enough or do I need to use this for the Romance task? Beach Read
Jenn wrote: "For the hat . . . is his ballcap on the left clear enough or do I need to use this for the Romance task? Beach Read
"The baseball cap is small, not prominent nor the focus of the cover. I would read it for the romance task.
I am also gonna use a Dresden book (Death Masks) for the hat prompt.Another question. If I use this for the interactive task:

It's a triptych. Can I use that as justification for the task: "Read a book part of a trilogy" ?
Hobbit_Marco wrote: "I am also gonna use a Dresden book (Death Masks) for the hat prompt.Another question. If I use this for the interactive task:

Yes, that would.
I will be starting Triptych in the next couple of days. Coincidence.
Janice, would
count as a man wearing a hat? The man's face is wiped out, but I was hoping he was obviously a man enough (although I get that with no face he might not really be wearing a hat, and it just is floating untethered in space).
Rusalka wrote: "Janice, would

Shirley wrote: "Janice, could I have a ruling on this please?Man wearing hat on the cover.
"Yes, it will work.
Rethinking this one. For the man wearing a hat, do you guys think these two guys wearing turbans in the bottom corner would count? The Railway
Oh, I feel like Queen Meanie today. lol Is a turban a hat? I'm not sure that any head covering would be considered a hat. Maybe Janice will pop in and override me, but I feel like it needs to be an actual hat.
I am not being argumentative at all, it's another I have to read no matter the answer. But you did lead me down a rabbit hole of the existential question: "what is a hat?"That one has plagued generations for centuries. What is the meaning of life? Is there life after death? What is a hat?
Wiki says: "A hat is a head covering which is worn for various reasons, including protection against weather conditions, ceremonial reasons such as university graduation, religious reasons, safety, or as a fashion accessory." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hat
Not sure what the definition is that Janice is going with. I can hang out on this one until she has time. Not like I'm running out of things to read lol
Hahaha, well using that definition I think it might fit. I guess we will have to let Janice have the final say. I'm pretty sure I've had this discussion before for a task, but I don't remember the outcome.
Me too! And I can't remember either.I did laugh though. I mentioned this to Lexx, and his interruption was "What is a hat?!?".
Either this is a deep philosophical question for the ages, or we are really showing that 17 years together has blended us into the same person...
Hahaha! This group really does dive deep into the existential side of things? What is a celebrity, what is a vessel containing water, what is jewelry, what is a hat?I have ruled out things like crowns as being a hat because it's more ceremonial and purposeful. You don't just walk out the door and put a crown on. And turbans seem to me to be similar. That takes me to a nun's habit. I would classify a turban in the same category - a religious purposeful attire.
When I wrote the task, I was thinking more of the casual common hat that you park on you head when you walk out the door.
What do you think?
I think that's fair. I'm sure it can fit somewhere this year. I'm more annoyed the book called The Railway doesn't have a train on the cover.
