Hi Janice - for task 1 location Read a book set in Italy (excludes Venice), or written by an Italian author. Can a small part like maybe less than 10% be in Venice? The majority of the book The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany is set in Florence, Tuscany, and the Amalfi Coast.

For kidnapping does it have to be taking someone for a ransom - or can the abduction be for other reasons? Like if it is a serial killer that abducts people/kids and eventually kills them - is that kidnapping? If someone is taken but the reason is unclear - is that kidnapping?Could I use
Cold Granite or
Long Bright River
Katrisa wrote: "For kidnapping does it have to be taking someone for a ransom - or can the abduction be for other reasons? Like if it is a serial killer that abducts people/kids and eventually kills them - is that..."The definition of kidnapping is the action of abducting someone and holding them captive. So ransom isn't necessary. The key here is holding them captive. I think your second book is a stronger choice.
Janice - for kidnapping, is it ok if it's not the main event in the book? I'm thinking of Moriarty. There are at least two kidnappings here.
Annerlee wrote: "Janice - for kidnapping, is it ok if it's not the main event in the book? I'm thinking of Moriarty. There are at least two kidnappings here."It needs to be part of the story and not just a mention, if that helps.
Both kidnappings help the story along but aren't the main events, if you see what I mean... I'm sure I'll find something else.
Annerlee wrote: "Both kidnappings help the story along but aren't the main events, if you see what I mean... I'm sure I'll find something else."Have you read In the Woods? It is what I have on my spreadsheet. I think everyone in the group has read it already, except me. I did not see your name on the TBR list or having read it already.
Annerlee wrote: "Both kidnappings help the story along but aren't the main events, if you see what I mean... I'm sure I'll find something else."They don't need to be the main event, and they can't be just a mention. So if you book is somewhere in between, it would be fine.
Cherie wrote: "Have you read In the Woods? ."That's a possibility, thanks Cherie. I was also thinking of Blaze which I hope includes a kidnapping too. Bachman / King are usually good options for me : )
Lol, I wish I could read Janice's mind on this one! But as we're filling in for her: according to the all knowing internet, in case of a dog it would be called dognapping. The definition of kidnapping includes that it's a person. So let's stick to people on this one.

So this seems like slightly a cop out, but I know the whole of YLTO is all over this challenge at the moment so over to you guys.I have The Music Teacher. From the blurb it sounds like people play musical instruments (him being a music teacher and her his student) but I am not sure if there will be any musical instrument playing in this book from the blurb. Do you reckon it would count?
There are no genres/themes/shelves on the page yet (hasn't been read enough on Goodreads) so seems to count out the theme of music in Museum 36. Thanks!
I don't know, Rus... I read a few of the reviews that summarize the storyline. It looks like it is called The Music Teacher because the MC had an affair with her music teacher and he becomes a somewhat main character in the plot. Unless there is music played in one of her dreams or memories, I don't think it will fit. It might be one that you have to read to see if anyone plays music, though it doesn't look like it will be a main theme.
Hah, completely why I asked, as I was in the same boat. But as I was flip flopping all over the place I thought I would ask the brains trust. I have to read it this year anyway, so I guess I will read it and see if there are any instruments being played, instead of "instruments".
Thanks Kristie!
It sounds to me like the policewoman is the main character. If the student or teacher are also main characters, and it's revealed that they play an instrument, it would count. All that's really required is that a main character plays an instrument. It doesn't need to be a theme of the story.

I was looking to see what books my online library had with the word 'water' in the title and I came across
. I immediately thought of this museum. I imagine there a lot of us using the statue of "David" as our interactive task :)
Interactive Item (Task 4) Question:Just trying to get a feel for whether or not I'm on the right track with my thinking process, would this make sense or too far-reaching? Also, I'm practicing the structure so I can do it correctly later when I record...
Book: The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd
Page Count: 416
Task: Read a book about one’s struggle to voice their opinion.
Interactive Item: https://www.accademia.org/wp-content/...
Item Description: Statues are called the Awakening Slave & the Young Slave. “They are some of the finest examples of Michelangelo’s habitual working practice, referred to as “non-finito” (or incomplete), magnificent illustrations of the difficulty of the artist in carving out the figure from the block of marble and emblematic of the struggle of man to free the spirit from matter. These sculptures have been interpreted in many ways. As we see them, in various stages of completion, they evoke the enormous strength of the creative concept as they try to free themselves from the bonds and physical weight of the marble. It is now claimed that the artist deliberately left them incomplete to represent this eternal struggle of human beings to free themselves from their material trappings.”
Task Explanation: It is said that the slaves who created these unfinished statues left them unfinished intentionally as a way to represent their own freedom.
That makes sense to me, Jocelyn. You were able to show how you went from the picture of the statues to the creation of your task. I'd say you're off to a great start.

I ended up reading The House Guest for the kidnapping task. It's an easy read and is set in New York too
If anyone is still looking for a book for the musical instrument task, I recently finished this book. This Tender Land. Odie plays the harmonica. I listened to the audiobook version, narrated by Scott Brick. It was an excellent story. I really wanted to use it for the school task for another museum but the story does not take place at the Indian School for more than half of the book, although, the school and the terrible people who run it play key rolls and the school is a theme throughout.
