Annerlee | 2886 comments I'm having difficulty sourcing books set in the 1990s that appeal. So I think I'll finally try Bridget Jones's Diary - a phenomenon that has largely passed me by so far...

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15795 comments If you like travel memoirs, I'm currently reading Tea & Bee's Milk which is set in 1995. It seems to be a quick read. I've read more engaging memoirs than this, but it's an alright read. And Lilisa rated it 5 stars, so I may be the odd one out :)

Viji | 1595 comments I plan to read The Desiderata Gold for another challenge. I found that the book is set in parallel periods - AD 64 and 1992. The 1992 part is linked to the AD 64. This is not a Time Travel book.

The synopsis reads as under:
(view spoiler)

Would this book wok for the task:
2. About -
Task: Read a book set in the 1990's.

Thanks.

The rule for setting has always been that at least 50% of the book is set in the time period. If this book meets that, then it's acceptable.

Viji | 1595 comments Thanks,Janice. Out of the 22 chapters 11 chapters are set in 1992. I presume that this fits the task.

Annerlee | 2886 comments For the About task "set in the 1990s": I just read Dead Girls which is set entirely in the Summer of 1999. The main character is Thera - a feisty 11 year old girl who sets out to discover what happened to her 'very best, forever friend' who is a victim of a crime. The book is narrated from Thera's point of view and is very well done - she is an amazing character.

The book is pretty intense and hard hitting on occasion. It deals with how girls are taught to behave - how much (or little) adults inform them about the dangers of possible abuse and whether it would be better to have honest conversations, instead of shying away from the topic,

The book isn't at all heavy, even though it deals with difficult concepts. It's a book that will stay with me for some time. I gave it 4 stars

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2330 comments Hi I have just finished reading Innocent Graves

First Published in 1996
There is an interview with a character from Dubrovnik who says in response to the question

"when did you come here?
in 1991 after the siege" p 307 of kindle edition

There are also references to a computer diskettes which are more of a 20th than 21st century storage system

Is this enough to place it in the 1990"s

thanks for your help
