I read every Grisham through A Painted House, and then I kind of lost interest. A Time to Kill and The Pelican Brief are my favorites of his. We allowed our oldest to name our youngest. He chose Darby Shaw because of The Pelican Brief, but agreed to changed Shaw to Shea because of She stadium. For that alone, the book will always hold a special place in my heart.
Interesting.A Time to Kill was his first book and he acknowledges that it rambles. The Pelican Brief was the first Grisham book I read, wasn't too impressed.Didn't read him for several years after that but then found The Summons. It was pretty unputdownable. After that,I read most of his books.

A Time to Kill does ramble a bit, but tackles incredibly important topics that were very hard to read.
I think The Pelican Brief is fantastic. It was my first realistic look into political corruption in a way that wasn't James Bond or super spy-ish.
A brilliant book by him, not so well known and the only book written based on a true story...
The Innocent Man
The Innocent Man
Yes,a pretty good one, though again, way too long. Most of his books run to 400-500 pages, and that makes it a bit of a struggle to read him.
Also,he has written a lot.He sometimes repeats himself and quite a few of his books are rather mediocre.I liked his only volume of short stories,Ford County and also find it interesting when he steps outside the legal genre.
I am a Grisham fan. I've read most of his books. In general, I prefer the ones that are not court-room based. My favourites:
Yes,Bleachers kept me interested, even though I have little interest in American football. Also, his non legal books are generally much shorter.
I liked A Painted House too, where he draws on his childhood experiences about cotton farming in rural Arkansas.

Bit late to this thread, but an avid Grisham reader who just joined this group I'll pop in my 2 cents. These are my favourites, in no particular order:The Racketeer
The Testament
The Pelican Brief
The Firm
The Partner
The Broker
