09 - A book with a family tree
Two cozy mysteries I have read:Aunt Dimity and the Family Tree by Nancy Atherton (Note: this is book 16 of a series, but I don’t think you’ll miss too much reading out of order)
Family Skeletons by Rett MacPherson (first book in a genealogy series)
Lynn, the listopia subject says a book your best friend would like, but the title is with a family tree.
If I remember correctly One Hundred Years of Solitude has one and maybe The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has a family tree at the beginning.
The Incryptid series by Seanan Mcguire has a family tree in the front of each book. Series starts with Discount Armageddon.
Happy to see Love Medicine on the list since I have a copy on my shelf. I also might consider rereading Homegoing next year.
I'm hoping to find some good historical fiction for this one personally.I recall some of the Philippa Gregory books have family trees.
If you're looking for historical fiction, And I Darken has family trees for both the prince of Wallachia and the Ottomans.

Melissa wrote: "The Incryptid series by Seanan Mcguire has a family tree in the front of each book. Series starts with Discount Armageddon."Thanks! I wasn't looking forward to getting all my books off the shelves to check for family trees but now I know I have at least one if I don't stumble across another.
Many of Cassandra Clare's books have family trees (they can contain spoilers for other books though). I'm pretty sure Clockwork Princess has one. It usually depends on the edition

Oh, ugh! Let me check...

It looks like it's been fixed? :)

You are right about Philippa Gregory Thanks for the reminder and I have some of her books.
This is on my TBR but I think it will fit this one. Anyone read this? The Ancestor by Danielle Trussoni
Jennifer wrote: "Does anyone know if The Cousins would work here? "Yes it does (at least the UK edition has a family tree so I would expect it to be in all of them).
I like this prompt but it seems impossible to search for. When I google, all I get are books ABOUT creating a family tree. I'm glad we have crowdsourcing on this one :-) I'm counting on it!!
I read The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, and the Fall of Imperial Russia this summer and LOVED it! I also referred to the family tree often and spent a lot of time just studying it. There was so much breeding within the royal families that it was interesting to see who was related to who and how! I would highly recommend! It was also YA nonfiction so easy enough to read without getting too heavy.
I found a lot of books with maps while looking for a family tree, lol, but I finally found one on my TBR:Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
I just checked my daughter's copy of We Were Liars and there is a family tree in it, so I may go with that.
Argh, this is a toughie. It's hard to know if they do without looking at the actual book, as I can't for the life of me find any decent lists online. I can find a handful of novels featuring "genealogy", but of the ones on the list that I've read I know they don't actually feature family trees in them.
For this topic I am going with The Lady of the Rivers. I love historical fiction and have had this on my shelves for way too long.
Ann wrote: "I feel like I don’t quite understand this prompt. Help!"They mean a book that has a diagram of how people are related in the front or back of the book.
Like this in Crazy Rich Asians https://images.summitmedia-digital.co...
If anyone wants to check if a book has a family tree- you can use the "Look Inside" feature on Amazon's site for most books. I've found a few with family trees this way.

Really any biography of a Tudor or any king or queen is bound to have a family tree in the first few pages.
Megan wrote: "Really any biography of a Tudor or any king or queen is bound to have a family tree in the first few pages."I'm probably going to go the royalty route. So far thinking: Marie Antoinette: The Journey
this is probably a bit of a stretch, but would priory of the orange tree work for this? it doesn't have a tree persay, but it does have a list of characters and who they are related to.
Jennifer wrote: "Does anyone know if The Cousins would work here?
"I'm not sure, but I'm planning to use that for the 3 generations prompt!
Just a few from my historical fiction list for historical fiction and family saga lovers:The Eighth Life
New York
Paris
London
Russka: The Novel of Russia
Kent Family Chronicles by John Jakes
Sara wrote: "this is probably a bit of a stretch, but would priory of the orange tree work for this? it doesn't have a tree persay, but it does have a list of characters and who they are related to."That would totally work! Family trees don't have to be arranged in the traditional "tree" structure. This perfect as Priory has been on my TBR for a long time and I was really struggling to find a book for this category!
Sara wrote: "this is probably a bit of a stretch, but would priory of the orange tree work for this? it doesn't have a tree persay, but it does have a list of characters and who they are related to."If this counts, Gideon the Ninth has such a list at the start. The sequel, Harrow the Ninth, also has a character list (though I'm a bit more iffy on that because it doesn't say anything about who is related to whom).
If you want to combine the Tudor period and historical fiction, I would highly recommend Hilary Mantel's trilogy about Thomas Cromwell: Wolf Hall, Bring Up the Bodies and The Mirror & the Light. All three have several family trees at the beginning. Mantel writes beautifully and the amount of research that went into these books is impressive.
Thinking about it a little differently, there could be an actual tree that has a significance to a family in the narrative. I can't think of a book example off the top of my head, but the Diamond Rio song "Meet in the Middle" has a pine tree that ended up in the backyard that reminded the couple of how they could work out their differences.
Brandon wrote: "Thinking about it a little differently, there could be an actual tree that has a significance to a family in the narrative. If anyone else is trying to find BIPOC authors for this challenge, I found a couple after looking through my shelves:The Old Drift by Namwali Serpell
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez (Someone else mentioned this above as maybe having a family tree. My edition for sure does!)
I'd also echo the Louise Erdrich recommendation, who is a great person to turn to for this challenge. In addition to Love Medicine, mentioned above, these are her other books (that I own!) that have a family tree:
Tracks
The Bingo Palace
Tales of Burning Love
The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse
Antelope Woman
Aside from the last one, most of those are part of her Love Medicine series, which I've heard can also be read as standalones. Highly recommend her work!
Sandra wrote: "All I can think about is the Black family tree in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"Yup. And the family tree in the Crimes of Grindelwald movie! (which must be mentioned in the screenplay as well, right?)
The Cousins should work though so I'll go with that!
