I am wondering if anyone is finding YA novels for the list. As a high school English teacher, I want to find Ya novels for the challenge too. I found that Angie Thomas is publishing a novel in 2021 so there’s one! Thanks for any thoughts ✌🏾🤗

K.L. Middleton (theunapologeticbookworm) | 907 comments I've found several YA books that I am interested in reading for the challenge next year...

A Blade So Black - "a book that has a heart, diamond, club, or spade on the cover"
Ruby Red - "a book with a gem, mineral, or rock in the title"
Three Dark Crowns - "a book you have seen on someone's bookshelf"
Zombies Vs. Unicorns - "a book whose title starts with 'Q,' 'X,' or 'Z'"
The Book Jumper - "a book featuring three generations"
The Sound of Stars - "the book on your TBR list with the prettiest color"

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1809 comments A Pho Love Story for set in a restaurant
Pumpkin (or any of the Dumplin books) and Melt My Heart for body positivity
The Cousins for family tree
One of Us Is Lying for locked room mystery
The Marrow Thieves or Firekeeper's Daughter for indigenous author

I think most prompts are doable except for the Women's Prize.

Thank you for this list! I've been searching for ideas for my daughter.

G YA is my favorite genre! Here's some suggestions off the top of my head:

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo is a novel written in verse (35 - a different format, 16 - something broken on the cover) Elizabeth is an aquarius so if anyone is looking for an aquarius, she's also written The Poet X and With the Fire on High which are also SO GOOD.

Deathless Divide by Justina Ireland is my book that takes place mostly outdoors (historical fiction zombie YA).

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova for a magical realist book or a book with a heart on the cover.

Daughters of Jubilation by Kara Lee Corthron is also a historical fiction magical realism book (read it last year and it was soooo good)

if you'd like to travel to Iran (23), Darius the Great is Not Okay by Abdib Khorram is one of my favorite reads of all time.

Loving all the suggestions!

Erica | 1301 comments I'm halfway through Shadowshaper by Daniel José Older and it is a good ya urban fantasy. I found this book when a friend recommended it because Tracy Deonn was inspired by this series to create Legendborn which I read last year and loved.

message 18: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 1955 comments I'll post about this again when we get closer, but every year there are free YA audiobook giveaways. There look like some great choices this year (as usual), I don't know how many will work for the challenge, but it's an easy way to expand your YA library!
