Ideas? Questions? Please share here.

Lauredhel | 30 comments Darn, came to see if anyone else had ideas! This is definitely not my genre... and I was also sorta wondering if I could translate it to the Australian context, a dark/crime book set in the outback.

The only one I've found so far is Lake Charles by Ed Lynskey

One of the best authors for this genre is Sharyn McCrumb and she’s written a lot!

Pretty much any Southern Gothic or Southern Gothic Horror book—set in Appalachia not the Deep South would work.

Also some of the darker Appalachia-set memoirs like The Glass Castle would also work.

I’ll keep looking for ideas!

Here’s a good map of Appalachia: https://www.arc.gov/about-the-appalac...

Hannah | 3 comments I didn't think to apply this to memoirs! That's a great idea!

As always, we are very liberal about defining our prompts. So if it feels like a fit to you, we will agree. This one is kind of a wonky prompt (I can say that b/c it was my suggestion). So widening the options helps! ;->

Jessica | 6 comments My Long Islander is showing because I didn't realize the Appalachians were in Western NY state!! I wonder if there are any mysteries written about hiking the Appalachian Trail... gonna think on that one...

Diane Standish (crazeedi) | 5 comments I have 3 or 4 sharyn mccrumb books I haven't read yet! thanks for reminding me!

Diane Standish (crazeedi) | 5 comments also Mitch gave me "the third rainbow girl" set in west Virginia , a NF about a double murder. I think it would work

Samantha | 19 comments I’m thinking Betty by Tiffany McDaniel for this.

Kate Zdenek (katez) | 2 comments The Chicago Public Library just put up this guide to Appalachia. Although they are non-fiction I think they could work for this

Jessica | 6 comments My son asked me to read Belle Prater's Boy and in getting started, I realize they live in the Appalachians in Virginia and Belle just disappears one day. Guess I inadvertently found my choice for this prompt!!

Maja (maich) | 66 comments I found this thriller on YouTube (forgot who posted video about it) but I think it will be interesting for read. Will count for Appalachian noir?
The Silent Dolls

Ruthiella I just found ta book that will fit this category. It isn't "noir", but it is a historical mystery set in the Appalachian region of Southern Ohio: The Widows by Jess Montgomery.

Lauredhel | 30 comments As above I'm not great with noir and I want to adapt this to my local environment (Australia), so I've formed this shortlist of local dark/crime books if anyone else is interested:

Gone by Midnight (I've read the previous books by Fox, they're great)

Devil's Lair

Crackenback

Darkness for Light (again, have read the previous books and loved them)
