Yes, I read all the Twilight books. :P So, in the first book, when Edward is trying to explain to Bella why he loves/wants her so much, without being able to stop himself, he says,

Edward Cullen: "Yes, you are exactly my brand of heroin."

Now, at lunch today, someone posed a question. What exactly makes anyone think this is romantic? In any way?

Two schools of thought

*Oh, it's so romantic, he loves her so much he can't help himself, he's totally addicted to her, it's so cute*

or

*That's just messed up. He is so dependent and obsessed, it's almost stalkerish*

Because what if I'm on Jeopardy and they ask a question about it?

But seriously.

*sigh*

Can we all be mature, for once?

message 5: by Marley (new)

Marley (Marleyme95) | 5270 comments IDK, I never thought of it as that romantic...maybe...

"You make me sick, unhealthy and co-dependent."

Haha, that seems like the right description...

message 6: by jeeves... (new)

jeeves... | 644 comments hehehehehehehe

message 7: by jeeves... (new)

jeeves... | 644 comments and actually, that ew before was misplaced. the jeopardy thing was actually kindof a legitimate point even if it wasn't meant to be... :P

Lauren (djinni) | 7365 comments Mod
I meant it legit. Even if it's stupid, I remember everything anyway. Even if I hate pop music, I know current artists, just so I don't live under a cultural rock.

message 9: by jeeves... (new)

jeeves... | 644 comments right, so yeah, a general knowledge of twilight is regrettably pretty much necessary. i'll admit i know the whole plot, all four books, more or less, even though i only read, like, 52 pages of twilight and stopped because the ridiculous obsessiveness of my sister ruined the series before it started for me :P
i also watched the movie. the only line i really liked was when they were in the restaurant, and edward's reading everyone's mind, and he says to bella- "but you? nothing."
to me that implied lack of any thought whatsoever. so i laughed. my sister didn't get it. :P

message 10: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Ha. Jeeves.

The heroin...thing - it is in the context of vampire-loves-human-smells-yummy...he's talking about her blood, the smell. Not just her. She's not the heroin, it's her blood.

That's my understanding, anyway.

message 11: by Marley (new)

Marley (Marleyme95) | 5270 comments Either way Vampires are evil hungry creatures...

<3 jeeves...that's still hysterical.

message 12: by jeeves... (new)

jeeves... | 644 comments right, that too. cuz yeah, he liked her, and then he literally wanted to drink her blood. like, he LIKE liked her hehe...

message 13: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Haha. As much as it pains me to say it Marley, Vampires are not real X)

Ha yes, he loved her, and he loved her blood. He couldn't have both - it was one or the other.

message 14: by Marley (new)

Marley (Marleyme95) | 5270 comments Hmmm...food or love...

message 15: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments ...is it my dirty mind, or...

When he first smells her in the MOVIE, in the biology classroom, does it look like he just came?

Heheh....

It's my dirty mind, isn't it? XD

message 16: by Marley (new)

Marley (Marleyme95) | 5270 comments OMG! I NEVER thought of it that way, and we know how much of a perv I am...I wonder what Kies thought. I saw the movie with a bunch of friends, and me and him were being little bitches the whole way through! Twas great!

To me I thought he'd vomit.

message 17: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Oh God. I hate noisy teenegers in movies! lol

message 18: by Marley (new)

Marley (Marleyme95) | 5270 comments Haha, it was packed and during the first week it was there. I do too, but during the opening week it's to be expected.

message 19: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Yeah, I guess. Even at home I demand complete silence while watching movies though...I'm a grouchy bitch if anyone so much as sneezes!

I thought I was the only one like that.

message 21: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Well, you arn't alone. We must be the only two X)

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments Lorna wrote: "Oh God. I hate noisy teenegers in movies! lol"

I saw it on opening night with my friends who are raving Twilight fans. There were so many screaming fangirls who went nuts whenever Robert Pattinson, who is insanely ugly, came on screen. It was very interesting.

And the heroin comparison was creepy and stalkerish because Edward is creepy and stalkerish.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I like watching movies in silence but like when I saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in theatres at midnight, it wasn't silent but it was a fun loud and we could still hear the movie so i really liked it. I'm seeing New Moon at midnight with my friend who is like obsessed. I dont hate the books i just dont love them either.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments I have mixed feelings on the books. I don't like Edward or Bella, the plot is boring, and there is too much romance without anything else. However, I do like the minor characters.

I'm seeing New Moon with the same group of friends. I'm actually excited for this one. I want to see Jamie Campbell Bower!

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my god! HE'S IN IT?!?!

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments Yes! He's playing some V---- (I forget what they're called) vampire.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Volturi? IS HE ALEC? Oh my god! I wish Edward Sanders were in something! Hew's crazy talented, and I haven't seen him in anything since Sweeney Todd! :(

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments Yes! And no. According to imdb, he is playing some guy named Caius. I haven't read the book yet, so I'm not sure what that means.

Everyone in Sweeney Todd rocked! Although I don't like HBC's interpretation of Mrs. Lovett.

I though Carter did a really good job as Mrs Lovett. The Broadway version, she was so annoying in By The Sea.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments I've never seen a version of By the Sea that I liked. All version bother me in one way or another.

I just think that Angela had a funner interpretation of the role. It was more energetic, and I tend to prefer the more energetic performances. I admit that she overacted a bit in the tour DVD, but she's awesome in the OBC bootlegs, even though the video quality really stinks.

message 31: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) | 7365 comments Mod
In Carter's she wasn't as silly, but she had the air of crazy that really worked, because she suggested the pie thing, and you have to be pretty messed up for that

message 32: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) | 7365 comments Mod
Besides, in a movie, you can't be as huge and loud, because it would look stupid. Movies are more subtle.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly! I love Helena Bonham Carter, I think she is very pretty and very talented. Her, Tim Burton, and Johnny Depp are just a very wierd bunch and I thinhk that's why the movie was really good. Because they brought their own quirks into the characters and into the movie.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments I get her interpretation, and it does make sense, but I think that Angela's is more fun to watch. HBC's interpretation is probably the best suited one for a movie, and Angela's is one of the best for the stage (although I love the original London Mrs. Lovett's Worst Pies, and would love to see more of her). I prefer stage acting to movie acting in general.

Tim Burton is really quite cool. X)

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

He's my top favorite director/producer! I love all of his movies! He should've been on crew for Coraline, it would've been way better!

message 37: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) | 7365 comments Mod
I know, Coraline is exactly the kind of movie he would have done.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

I know! I was so surprised when he wasn't doing it. I saw it, and I think he could've made it better in a lot of ways. One of my favorite movie/musicals is Corpse Bride. I love the music! :)

message 39: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (djinni) | 7365 comments Mod
omg, Corpse Bride was so good!

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol! Someone understands! All my friends make fun of me for loving it. I'm like, "Are you serious? It was awesome!" Haha. Again, Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp, and Tim Burton. My favorite trio, :)

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments He really is good, from what I've seen of him.

I loved Coraline! I haven't seen Corpse Bride.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

He didn't do COraline, it was ok. He would've made it better.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments I know, but I still loved it!

message 44: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments I agree with you all...about everything...Tim Burton, Johnny Depp (yum) and Helena Bonham Carter.

I'm looking forward to seeing New Moon, but I think Rob Pattinson is crazy hot! Not just because of Twilight, he was hot before that. I'm chuffed that he's my age.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments How does everyone think that Johnny Depp is hot? He's not that good looking! He's a great actor, but there are a lot of better lookin people out there.

Robert Pattinson is terribly ugly! He was only a little bit ugly in Harry Potter, but in Twilight, he was painful to look at!

message 46: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 1273 comments Oooh Johnny is soo goodlooking. He's the hottest man alive, I think! I've been obsessed with him since like year 9 X)

I guess we have very different tastes in men? haha

HE. IS. HOT. There is no way to deny.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments I suppose so. I just don't understand what people see in them.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 222 comments No. :P

I just don't see it. I like Germans and Hungarians and Swedes better.
