So, what book has been hanging out, forgotten and neglected, on your TBR shelf? Or pile, or mountain, or...

Jacqie | 93 comments There's a prompt like this for Popsugar this year! The book that's been on Goodreads the longest is Fudoki by Kij Johnson. There are probably books that have been languishing in the basement far longer than I've had a Goodreads account, but this is the one I'll do.

My Goodreads old-timer is Animals Make Us Human: Creating the Best Life for Animals, so that is my target read this month. But I plan to count anything I obtained in 2020 or earlier.

Angela (innae) | 30 comments I finished book of the dead (on my tbr since 2006) and now I am starting Firefly by Piers Anthony which has been hanging around since 2007.

Amy (amyml88) | 113 comments I've had Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side on my Kindle since Jan 2012. So I'm reading that one.

Jacqie | 93 comments It looks like I put Fudoki by Kij Johnson on my goodreads TBR on September 30, 2011, so I just barely managed to read it less than 10 years later.

I liked the book a lot- it's sort of a Japanese historical fantasy/myth. I don't think I'll read the prequel since people seem to like this book better. It's been some time since this author came out with a new book and I do really like her stuff, so I hope there's something in the works.

Dawn Lofink | 40 comments Currently picked up Ursula K. Leguin's Wizard of Earthsea. We will see how it goes.

Cheryl (6of8) | 197 comments I have had Mark Kurlansky's Salt sitting on my TBR since November 2012 -- with a note to myself to read it within a year of receiving it from another BookCrosser. Getting closer to 9 years, but I finished it today.

Marie-thérèse Faidherbe | 30 comments The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
I got it from my daughter in 2012. She loved it, but she was wondering about the logic of some aspects... It would take too much time to check, she said. Funny I thought the same.
Anyway, I found the basic idea was great, but I did not like it so much, and it took me a long time to finish it.

Jacqie | 93 comments I lived TTWife when it originally came out, but I wonder what I'd think of it today.

Dawn Lofink | 40 comments Finished Wizard of Earthsea, and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Parts of her writing style haven't aged well, but definitely a good book overall.

I did finish the Temple Grandin book. I don't always agree with her, but I do value her perspective. This book was more about caring for and managing animals, so a lot of it did not have any practical application in my life, but it was still interesting, and I will likely read more from her.

I also counted The Epic Crush of Genie Lo and Twelfth Night, both of which were free Audiobook SYNC downloads. I'm pretty sure that Genie Lo was in 2019, but now that I think about it, I'm not sure Twelfth Night was, too. It might have been 2020. Ah, well, they're both pretty iffy for the "veteran" label, so it's a good thing I finished Animals.

I loved it, too. My attitude soured somewhat, though, when I discovered that my then-husband was using it for a weird role-play with one of his online girlfriends. So, totally not the book's fault...but...ew.

I'll have to give that one another go someday. I keep thinking I'm going to use it for one challenge or another, but then a different book beats it to the prompt.
