2017 Reading Challenge discussion

With a first name beginning with a V, I figured the best place to look for a book with my initials would be in the romance section...and, I was right. Found one doing a simple search on Amazon.

The book is a typical romance book set in Wyoming in the late 1800s. The main female falls back in time to meet and fall in love with a cowboy and his three younger sisters. Tension with a rival rancher helps to move along the romance as he tries to understand his feelings for the woman who dropped into his life.

The characters are believable, though not as well rounded as I would like. The main female character is a lawyer, and though it touches on her personality, I would have liked her skills to have been part of the solution, and actually thought it would have been appropriate to help her love when he is accused of murder. The story line is forced at some points, but basically enjoyable as a quick read.

The love story part is decent, though the tension and romance that is typical of some of the better romance writers is lacking. However, the writer does show some good use of vocabulary to portray the scenery, and the emotions of the protagonist, and his love.

I gave it four stars because I did enjoy it, but since it was not the best in its genre, I did not go up to five. Truthfully, it was more like a 3.5.

I would recommend it for a nice, brain candy sort of read for anyone looking for a book with my initials.
