Oh my gosh, I just finished chapter 19 and I'm so depressed. Also, I'm angry for Spin with the way she's being treated. So unfair. I'm really enjoying this book so far.

Alas, this is a slow going book for me. I think one of the things I'm struggling with is that I am having trouble finding Spensa likable. I think this is going to be a test of whether the character development pays off in the end because I happened to see a video in which someone spoke highly about the book and made mention of character development.

I think another thing challenging me with this book is that I am getting Ender's Game vibes. It's a bit of a been there, it was done better before feeling.

I, too, was saddened and surprised by the loss within the flight. I had been hoping for more to develop with the character of Morningtide since Spensa had so badly mischaracterized her initially.

One silly thing I do like about the book is Doomslug. I'm starting to realize maybe I'm a sucker for cute, small sidekicks. :)

I love Doomslug. It's funny how she had never seen anything like him before when he's native to the planet.

I never read Ender's Game so I didn't have that to bother me.

While it's not just about this, much of Ender's Game takes place in Battle School, and the students are all quite young (younger, I think, than even Spensa and her classmates.) There's a lot of simulated flying and combat practice.
