Saadat Hassan Manto was such a celebrated writer,and such a controversial one,too.He wrote a great deal,sometimes he wrote when drunk,sometimes he just walked into magazine offices,wrote stories in a matter of minutes,collected his money and left.

He was subjected to obscenity charges and court cases.He died at only 42,due to excessive drinking.

At his best,though,he could shock and stun the reader.Such were his powerful descriptions of sordid realities and the seamy side of life.

This is a very fine example of Manto's writing,at its best.These are very short pieces,so short these cannot even be called full fledged stories,but pack quite a punch.
